Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

You have my first house in that picture.. Allen is a great street, I found the neighbours interacted much more on that street than any other I have lived on, I attribute this to lack of front yards, forcing people to mingle on their stoops. There are a few changes but out of frame, the picket...

    Toronto Toronto | The Carlaw | ?m | 12s | Streetcar | TACT Architecture

I hope someone has more imagination then two grass over the triangle lot at Dickens/Dundas/Carlaw.... If the "finger' your refering to is the railway right of way between the new condos, I would again hope that the developers and city are smart and allow a few restos/bars to set up patios in...

    Toronto Toronto | The Carlaw | ?m | 12s | Streetcar | TACT Architecture

This is great news..... I still remember when the area was littered with gas stations and railway tracks as well as a working colgate factory. I'm really curious as to what will be done with the triangular lot between dickens and dundas on the north west corner. This area is going to look...

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

it may also be cheaper to retrofit the Bellamy yard rather than build a new yard with the capacity for the entire line's stock.

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

"they can instead use the new yard that will be used for the Eglinton line. " Which would make sense to retrofit the Bellamy yard.... can't think of many places to build a new yard on eglinton, aside from the flats at Jane or in the Don valley, both are probably to rugged terrain wise to...

    Graffiti

"If graffiti is so visually appealing to so many people then street 'artists' shouldn't have much of a problem finding donated spaces for their creations." Alot of the spaces in the alley that runs from spadina to portland were "donated spaces" but that didn't stop the city from painting over...

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

and how many buses do you need to equal the capacity of one streetcar? then there is also the issue that streetcars are perceived as permanent infrastructure which increases land values where a bus in not going to add anything to the nabe which in turn adds nothing to your land value.

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

I would argue that traffic blocks streetcars, which sound like the chicken and the egg arguement, but think about how many people are on a streetcar and how many people are in the handful of cars being blocked, I would think the ratio would be around 30:1 or greater. I have a hard time feeling...

    Graffiti

I just hope the police have the sense to know what is legal art and whats vandalism, last time they went on a rampage, I was almost arrested for painting legally. The officer refused to believe that I was allowed to paint where I was.... yeah I always erect scaffolding when I'm tagging(not that...

It's getting close to that time of year again.... Trying to find the registration date for Withrow Park ball hockey and can't find any info on their horrible webpage. If anyone has any info on it could you either post it here or send me a PM? My son wasn't old enough last year and I want to get...

Dont mind the building per se, but that rendering is HORRIBLE... do these guys now how to use perspective properly? the forced perspective thing is a bad tool in the wrong hands....

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Goldie, What street did you grow up on? Seems like we have the same stomping grounds, just a few generations apart. I grew up on Strathcona, My mother grew up on Carlaw and my grandmother grew up on Milverton.... I was looking at some shots of Jones back in the 40's... what a gorgeous...

Thanks Anna, i saw those but they generally look west from pape or carlaw showing the track and bridge work, I'm more interested in seeing a view looking east, showing what occupied the site of Gerrard Square.

Great thread!! That shot of Jones/Danforth got me looking for another area, Gerrard between Jones/Pape..... I can't find anything on the archives, I'm curious to see what the site of Gerrard Square was before they built that monstrosity. Anyone come across anything?

When have you ever heard of a tax actually being repealed? I'll believe it when I see it, and it surely won't be by January.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Let me be the second person to respond that will actually use it. I live in Leslieville and work in scarborough, I will use the Bloor-Danforth line, the RT (or whatever replaces it) and the sheppard east LRT (hopefully there is a link between STC and sheppard) No these are not the exact same...
