Commute from UofT area to York

As a York student myself, prepare to mutter that statement frequently. :) Not really too much to add. The transit trip is pretty straightforward and while it reading it here might look like it takes a while, it's really a snap. I live east of downtown by Donlands station and door-to-door it...

Article: Early Rendering For 52 Storey Condo At 9-21 Grenville Street By Lifetime And

If anything, having that house will take away any attempt at a human scale for the street. I mean, you see a lovely, Victorian house and then you see how minuscule it is compared to this tower. It's a nice house and I'd hate to see it go, but it just looks ridiculous there.

Article: Talon International's Trump International Hotel and Tower Closing In On Bay

I wonder how people on the top floors of Scotia Plaza will feel as they look down upon the roof of the "second tallest building" in the city. :)

Is this what you're looking for? http://www2.ttc.ca/html/frameset.htm Click on "Current Tenders" on the left and it's the fourth one down. You get more information clicking the tender number rather than the text. Hope that helps.

I'd imagine so. Boeing and Airbus do the painting at the time of final assembly. Granted, Boeing and Airbus are much larger than the Bombardier operation at Downview but I'd be surprised if Bombardier didn't have a painting bay.

I'm trying to figure out the plan for these trains in regard to the movement of rolling stock. I know the initial goal as the TRs come online will be to replace the H-4s on the B-D Line with T-1s coming from the Yonge-University Line. Will the T-1s also replace any of the H-6s on the B-D Line...

I've seen that plane landing at Downsview as well. I imagine they must use it for testing new technologies for the Q400. So, chances are you'll see it again. As an aside, I saw a Porter Dash 8 landing at Downsview the other day. So, unless it was an older plane being ferried into the...

Article: Yonge And Bloor Stands As A Backdrop To The Future One Bloor East Condos By

Great shot. My initial thought was the Sheraton Centre. But, looking at it more I'm going with one of the buildings at the Eaton Centre. The view appears to be slightly west of Yonge, but definitely east of Bay.

Transit problems getting out of hand across the country.

Those maps were done a few years ago, before the Canada Line was finished. That's why it's not represented. I'd say another metric for success is not just the size of the network or ridership, but the density (which generally is both a cause and effect of ridership). For instance, look at...

Article: A New $12.4 Billion Transit Plan For Toronto

While this is better than what I originally thought we were going to get when Rob Ford was elected and declared Transit City "dead", I can't help but wonder if (when?) the city fails to raise the necessary money through development fees, will the city just can the Sheppard extension or will the...

Not sure. Most of the routes within Ontario are either already served by Porter, do better on RJs, or will probably see Dash 8s once Jazz takes delivery of the Q400s they have on order (Toronto-Thunder Bay comes to mind). The routes that aren't served by Porter might not need that much capacity...

I admit most of the evidence is anecdotal from another, aviation-centered forum, that includes Porter insiders. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt. The fact that Porter is a private company means that very little is known with any certainty. Their failed IPO last year did give some...

Chances are, however, as the Continental/United merger progresses, the Cleveland hub will be pulled down. There's no real need for it with hubs in Chicago, Newark and Washington-Dulles. So I imagine that once routes start getting cut from Cleveland, they'll reallocate those aircraft to other...

I imagine Continental is waiting to see where some of the chips may fall with regard to its merger with United. Maybe we'll see something like a 5/3 or a 6/2 split between Newark and Chicago-O'Hare. My reasoning for this is with the impending merger between Continental and United, and United and...

Porter's 70-seat planes might be a bit much for Ottawa-Thunder Bay, especially compared to Jazz's 50-seat CRJs (which I'm assuming its being dropped for not being filled). That said, a Dash-8 is more economical than a CRJ at $100/barrel oil, so maybe.

New Automated TTC service disruption announcements

This could tie in nicely with the thread about renaming the YUS line. Maybe it's time to drop the 'Spadina' bit since the computer can't say it right. *stirs pot*

Has the second train arrived? I was going by the other day and could have sworn I saw the cars numbered 5401, etc. It also didn't have any of the testing gear strapped to the exterior. With talk of the first train having to go back to Kingston, I assume the problems were identified before the...
