It doesn't just apply to the media, it applies to everybody. You can attend, you just can't "broadcast or transmit" any of the evidence. That includes on urbantoronto!

    True on all fronts.

Yeah, but you still won't get to see it.

He also tweeted that reporters were applying to get copy of the exhibits. I suspect the crack video was played in court this morning. Although sadly even if they do get copies, the publication ban will prevent them from airing it.

Laura is a lawyer, not a judge. Lawyers do not wear sashes. Judges do. And Laura is an extremely ethical, wonderful lawyer who is entitled and well deserving of the presumption of innocence. She does not do crack. She does not smuggle drugs into court. She was treated in a horrendous...

It depends in part on how long the trial is set for. If I recall correctly the last one was only a couple of days - it looks like this one is set for a week. The longer the trial, the longer you generally have to wait for court time.

Definitely not true. You only hear about them because they're powerful and have money. As a criminal defence lawyer, I can tell you that similar idiocy arises in all levels of power and fortune.

I was in court today and there was another trial going on in my courtroom in which the accused, who appeared to have mental health problems and was representing himself, told the judge he was going to subpoena a reporter from the Toronto Sun. On a break outside court several of the police...

Actually, that's pretty much exactly what he said on his Facebook posting.

Actually, on CP24 this evening, Doug said he wasn't sure the tests would be proceeding today as planned.

Apparently Doug Ford told CP24 that Rob has been admitted to hospital, and has a cold and swelling in his legs. So treatment is on hold for now. A cold? From shaking hundreds of hands contrary to your doctor's advice? Humph.

I believe it's because they didn't want to blow their larger investigation to charge him with relatively minor offences. That's not special treatment - I see it with my clients all the time.

Technically, he was right, if he actually believed it was a joint rather than a cigarette (which might not pass the smell test in court). But if he actually did think he saw you trafficking drugs in the car, he was right.

Hehe. Apparently the dude whose company made the pink umbrellas for Sugar Beach is on Ford's donor list. This amuses me.
