    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I guess there are a lot of factors including remediation, land use ready, developer interest, and others that may restrict the land available for affordable housing.

I’m sure those rentals, being smack dab in the middle of the CBD, are gonna come dear. Not very affordable I would imagine!

Federal support, as in moral support or financial support? 🤣😂🤔

Global was covering this today and said there was to be some media announcement, but I didn’t think there was any new news. Did I miss something earth shattering on it?

That link leads to an error message for me.

4 units+4 basement suites in the main building and 1 garage suite in the other building. It appears to only have 4 parking spaces though, so the occupants of the basement and garage suites are gonna be SOL.

If she was opposed to it, why would she designate Ric McIvor as Green Line liaison and if she was opposed to it, wouldn’t she have indicated so already? Why wait till the election to drop that bombshell? No, I think it’s still a go, but as for north and south extensions, I’m not sure when or if...

Since I moved away from downtown to Airdrie, I haven’t been to Backlot, but I am sad to hear of its impending closure.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

With all the office-to-other-use conversions going on/being planned downtown, I wonder if the University of Arts has thought of ditching their SAIT digs and moving downtown. I’m sure one of those office buildings would make a great campus, including a residence!

    What is a “five/ones”?

If that happens, and I truly wish it doesn’t, then no elevated or ground level tracks through downtown a la Jim Gray please!

@Calgcouver that is an excellent response! Thank you very much!

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Is there a reason why the City creates separate plans for specific streets in the downtown (eg: 8th Street, Stephen Avenue, and others) as opposed to creating one plan encompassing all of downtown together? Wouldn’t that be better synergy?

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Would it necessarily be a bad thing to retain one way traffic on 33rd and 34th avenues? I avoid the area now because traffic and parking are horrendous! Perhaps making these two avenues one way might help with that?

Well maybe not another library, but definitely an aquatic centre, and perhaps sport courts, a fitness centre, and a community centre!

Let’s close the grocery store but hey, you want liquor or cannabis, no problem, we will keep those departments open! 🤪

Hmm I signed up for e-news but didn’t receive this, and I don’t have a junk filter on either! Well, glad you posted! Thank you! Good to know!

I’ve never been there but the building looks cool and the history is interesting. There’s not many buildings in Calgary with “a story” (in this case ghosts/funeral parlour). Hope the building doesn’t languish long before a new business is up and running!
