    TTC: Pape Station Renovation

The station shutdown is scheduled for June 15 - 26. They really should have highlighted that for the vast majority of people without mobility issues, Donlands and Chester are a five minute walk - makes much more sense than waiting for a bus that may or may not show up...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

The Star seems to be pretty behind with that news... the delay's been talked about in this thread for a few months now. In either case they didn't seem to have any schedule float in the project before the accident happened so there's no chance now of the 2015 opening. The York station...

    Toronto Toronto | Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

This looks more like the subway second platform they're working on doesn't it?

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

I can't believe they can say the project is "largely on schedule" yet at the same time the northern tunnels are seriously behind schedule. If a key contract like tunnels is behind schedule, it is probably on the critical path and therefore the whole project is behind schedule. Anyone still...

    Toronto Toronto | Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Did you consider that making a grand street will probably attract better retail? And also be good for the waterfront in general. There's also studies looking at improving downtown Yonge St. Not sure if Queen really needs millions spent on it...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Guess Metrolinx hasn't updated their signs, the crossings not opening until...wait for it....2014! Kind of a big delay even for a transit project. http://www.gotransit.com/gts/en/docs/20120329_WTD_Extended_Hours_EN.pdf

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Pretty sure that construction has significantly outpaced the CPI the last few years, 4% might even be too low.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Given the additional cost for tunnelling under the runways, they'd have to charge a few hundred dollars per person I imagine...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

They've been testing speed control, which is a component of ATC, on Sheppard for years now... I guess they still haven't finished it?

Karen Stintz: Memo to incoming TTC chair

I think you're overestimating the memory span of voters. Also it's hard not to look good if Rob Ford is her main competition...

Karen Stintz: Memo to incoming TTC chair

Pretty sure we just witnessed the unofficial start to her 2014 mayoral campaign. While I didn't like her when she first became prominent a couple years ago, I'm definitely coming around to her. I think Toronto could really use a centrist mayor who knows the meaning of a compromise after all this...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

There must be something in the code about minimum separation between an active rail line and a pedestrian walkway... and obviously pedestrians aren't the highest priority outside of downtown.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think you need to do a bit more googling - all the hospital projects I've seen from Infrastructure Ontario are DBFM - Design Build Finance Maintain. There's a big difference between maintaining the hospital and operating it. From Bridgepoint: So talking about xrays going to India is a bit...

    Under-lake Maglev (or High-speed Rail) to Niagara/Buffalo

Yes but that bridge replaced a ferry which took who knows how long.. and Confederation bridge is 13 km long. Whereas this outlandish bridge saves maybe an hour off the QEW and would be 50+ km....

    Toronto Toronto | Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Pretty interesting report about Union capacity at Metrolinx's next meeting. As far as Union itself is concerned, the conclusions seems to be that even with double berthing the platforms, a new underground level of platforms is required, as has been much discussed - although there's clearly...

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

Couldn't find the DRL specific thread, so I'm posting here. Metrolinx has a report for their next board meeting about the Union Station/DRL studies. The conclusion from the Union Station demand study seems to be that the only way to meet 2031 demand levels is a second main station. Option...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I saw the mockup last night, it actually does have a separate Gong button. Apparently it's just an MP3 recording though.

    The University line

If the University line was built today you'd probably be right. But the route was decided more than 50 years ago... when I'm guessing the densities near Spadina and Bathurst weren't quite what they are today. Nevermind that getting funding for the subway would've been much easier for a route...

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

The "preferred proponent" for the spur line has been named: AirLinx Transit aka Aecon/Dufferin. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/10/24/toronto-airport-rail-link-metrolinx359.html

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

It's one of the busiest streets for pedestrians, so of course it should be there. We don't need to cater our city to cars.
