Homicide down across GTA in 2008, up in Peel

I thought St Jamestown was simply poor, I didn't know it had a reputation for crime. And it is shocking to hear that Malton (a part of Mississauga?) has such a high crime rate. Although, they say Rexdale is dangerous, but my friend lives by Steeles and Martin Grove and the area doesn't seem...

    Is CityPlace That Bad?

It seems like CityPlace is the textbook definition of failure. People critisize everything about it, from the exterior to the neighbourhood. How come it is so widely critisized? Is it even complete yet? I thought they were adding retail all along Bremner Boulevard? The area seems relatively busy.

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

I never understood why people critisize Mississauga for exhibiting suburban qualities. Afterall, isn't that what it is? I hear people saying how there are no pedestrians, no cafes, and more car usage. But isn't that how cities generally work? The city centre (Toronto) is urban and the...

Toronto as a Global City? What's holding us back?

And Chicago is number 8 right behind Tokyo. In that respect Chicago > Toronto

Toronto as a Global City? What's holding us back?

Surely Toronto isn't more important than Chicago. Chicago outranks Toronto is virtually every aspect. It's a global financial center too. Toronto is not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Financial_Centres_Index

    Mississauga Toronto | Absolute World | 169.77m | 56s | Cityzen | MAD architects

I can't imagine there are any people from Toronto who aren't jealous of those two buildings.

    Worst City?

How did you find London, San Diego and Chicago?
  8. C

    Worst City?

Because I don't quite have an opinion. I haven't travelled much. I hear people critisize a lot of American cities on this board (such as Phoenix and Houston) so I made this thread to see which cities they disliked and why. If you don't have an opinion, then I guess it's settled. Off you go.

    New York Snapshots Part II

Me too. I dream of being a wealthy New Yorker one day. *sigh*

    Montreal: Canada's most American city?

San Franciso has 12 billionaires in the city which is only surpassed in North America by Chicago, Los Angeles and New York (which has 55 billionaires). Overall, the US has an alarming amount of billionaires in relation to other countries. Germany is second. How many billionaires are in...

    Worst City?

Honest to God, I hate these sort of comments. Clearly people are answering and justifying their opinions, so just carry on and ignore this thread if it doesn't pertain to you. Everytime I make a thread that requires an opinion some buzzkill comes along and claims the question is "subjective"...

    Montreal: Canada's most American city?

Really? I've never been there myself, but according to this Mercer survey, Montreal is the 25th richest city based on income and San Francisco is no where on the list: http://www.citymayors.com/economics/richest_cities.html I have heard San Francisco is notoriously expensive though.
  13. C

    Worst City?

No. Don't make this into more than what it really is. I'm open-minded but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have a problem living in an ultra-conversative area in the Middle East. Let's not delude ourselves. There's a difference between being open-minded and being passive. I do have a problem...
  14. C

    Worst City?

Really? Why would someone like me want to be in a place where gay bars get raided (happened in Houston) and where people love their guns like their own children. This is a normal attitude to have. I prefer the open-minded, progressive crowd. Not the exact opposite.
  15. C

    Worst City?

I've heard the most awful things about Atlanta, whether they are true or not. But I remember someone describing it as a sprawling suburb with a few tall buildings in the middle. And I've heard you'd be hardpressed to find an area within city limits that are considered safe by Canadian standards...
  16. C

    Worst City?

Phoenix, Las Vegas and Houston would just about kill me. Not only are they unbearably hot, but apparently they all have some of the worst sprawl in North America (particularly Houston). I've heard Los Angeles looks like a third world country. Mind you, from what I've heard, the city is...

    The New Regent Park

I get that they are trying to increase the look of the neighbourhood, but are they getting rid of ALL the block towers and replacing them with more modern looking apartments? And are they doing this to limit the amount of space being used because the old buildings take up a lot of space and the...

    Worst City?

What's the worst developed city you've ever visited? A city that would be unbearable to live? Some contenders for the worst cities (from what I've heard) would be Phoenix, Detroit, Houston, Miami and Los Angeles.

    The New Regent Park

Question: What was the initial issue with Regent Park? And what exactly is it they are doing by reconstructing buildings?

One more batch of Hamilton photos

Hamilton has a real run down look to it. And the factories are very aesthetically unappealling. I live in Hamilton (temporarily) and I love parts of it such as the Westdale Village, Kirkendall and Durand, but for the most part its main streets feel so run down.
