    Rail Deck Park (?, ?, ?)

Not sure about that. It's good stretched linearly with the sightlines towards the CN Tower. Sort of like David Crombie. Provided there is a park. And I don't think it really works to have towers right on top of the corridor, just only strafing the north sliver.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Boston. I guess that'd be the third oldest. But then we got Philadelphia. And stadtbahns. So we do in fact have really old N.Am examples, and more recent examples in Europe. Not talking about tram-trains although some lines/section/branches would have that. I'm saying tram-style in the suburbs...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

And? Not arguing semantics of what "rapid transit" constitutes. Unlike Arg's poor examples I gave a relevant, local, up-to-date, side by side comparison of ridership between a tram-style LRT and grade-separated rapid transit. In suburban Toronto. Which is the topic from the previous two pages...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Needn't pick and choose different cities in different countries when we have a good 1:1 case here. Eglinton West. Projected to have greater ridership as a surface LRT than the grade-separated ("subway") option. Your hyperbole that LRT "absolutely fails" is out the window since we see 20% more...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

yeah, no political party is going to present an elevated guideway for 3.2m wide trains running down Sheppard. That's pretty much a given. And what are the peak projections for a Sheppard extension. Like 8k pphpd? Meanwhile a 6-car subway is designed for 36k. You're saying building a line with...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

The goal as proposed is to go east. It's unfunded, uncosted, and little more than a concept on a map. Going west to Downsview is a separate concept, even further intangible, and very far into the future. All told that's about 12km, and I guess roughly $8bn in today's dollars. There's merit to...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I don't think gauge is an associated with costs (there's likely a smidge but nothing to write home about). It's about sharing a system, and taking advantage of the supposed ~150% greater capacity that's touted for OL. We can use those same cost-savings advantages (i.e smaller stations) to a...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I haven't seen anyone mention cost of vehicles as an issue, because it's not really an issue. Would still be a subway, and an extension of a subway. Can't say I've seen conversion of the line to a smaller-scaled subway, ICTS, or even extended as simply 4-car Toronto Rocket for that matter...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Then Tweet Schabas. He works for the province and was a backer of a variant of the plan. It's been written about in a semi-official capacity. I think it makes a lot of sense. Fiscally predominantly, but planning wise as well. Shorter trains, can (re)-use existing station footprints within Scarb...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Replacement could be a year. Could be two or three. Still sounds a lot more affordable and realistic than blindly promising to extend it unfunded as 6-car TR - putting it right up there as one of the most expensive transit projects per km in the world. Is anyone aware Sheppard is simply an...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Now hold on a sec here lol. I clearly addressed the issue of storage and maintenance. That is, temporarily trucked to the proposed Thorncliffe facility until an eventual connection is made on Don Mills. Optimal? Not exactly. Doable? Seemingly. Line 3 trains have been trucked to Greenwood...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Is this so it could run the same trains and be interchangeable with OL? If such is the case OL would need retractable pantos, and there'd be a bit more mods to the Sheppard line needed (adding catenary etc). Yet another reason OL should use third rail - so that Sheppard could easily be...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Very nice. Lots of talent. I'd like to see some retro angular vibes. Effectively a modified Lotus Esprit / early BART front end, and perhaps a tight floorplate and roof that tapers outwards toward the centre of the side giving a hexagonal profile.

And wasn't it only a few years ago Doug and his brother referred to long-serving municipal politicians as pigs at the trough. Now they're to be lauded. Seems absurd, but your explanation explains why.

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Naming a line after a politician seems pretty weird. Was the decision borne by way of a vote from their city council and passed onto QP? Or is it some last minute meddling thing from the Prov? Just seems kinda weird.

    St. Jamestown Openspace Project

The impromptu bazaar along the unopened section of Ontario Street is imo one of the neatest things in the city. Totally random congregation of people hocking wares of sorts, and it just...happened. Kinda want to say the City could actually make it legit by providing stalls. But a lot of the...

Toronto Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Richmond/Adelaide/Eastern ramps are often overlooked in these discussions about living next to highways. Obviously lower speed and not an actual highway. But they're urban and incorporated well alongside the road. Do wonder how many years the windows and doors will be soundproof. Gaskets and...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

What are you going on about? It's in York Region's TMP to go further, and Vaughan was literally advocating to go further only a few years ago. A far cry from "no one".

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Noticing sections of concrete around streetcar tracks in very rough shape. It's almost as some of it has been undermined in some way. Other sections large chunks broken off. This winter was harsh, but not extremely harsh.
