    Transit Fantasy Maps

I like how sheppard is actually connected to Sheppard West Station. Seems like such a glaring gap. I've said this before, but I'll say it again, despite the poor ridership they think this line will attract in-between, there's definitely a case for a northerly cross-town service that allows...

    Poll: Yonge North Subway Extension

Likely 8-10 years...unfortunately. I'm personally holding out hope for autonomous vehicles to save us.

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

That's actually a well documented rationale used in traffic engineering. Motorists tend to be less frustrated waiting longer at lights if they see that the intersection is being well - used. As for 30 seconds pre-emption for VIVA vehicles is pretty long. You'd likely have better results having...

You don't even need to show renderings, we have a perfect example of high-quality shelters on the VIVA system that were built for an eventual change to LRT.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

I honestly couldn't care less about the ice sculptures. I actually find them hilarious, maybe just my sense of humour. But one thing is for sure, they've managed to get more coverage and people talking about them because of all the twitter warriors and social media reposts of their images. No...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Signal priority would probably have little impact on general traffic if they maintain the 15 minute headway. Only thing I can think of is that reliability is already so good with the ROW that the extra few minutes they'd save wouldn't justify the extra cost of implementing it, and there'd...

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Yea I've been thinking this. I don't understand who the Lakeshore alignment east of Humber would be serving that the Queensway/King Streetcar couldn't serve better?

PRESTO adoption on the TTC is ~1.4M transactions a week. http://www.metrolinx.com/en/docs/pdf/board_agenda/20170628/20170628_BoardMtg_PRESTO_Report_EN.pdf Typical week DAY ridership on the TTC is ~2.7M...

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Travel times within the pilot area have decreased, those vehicles must turnaround on cherry/dufferin or continue to their terminals to come back the other way. A 25% increase in speed in the pilot area does not equate to a 25% increase across the entire route....the capacity in the pilot area...

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Wasn't there plans to make Bathurst a dedicated ROW between Queens Quay and Queen Street once the heritage bridge south of Front Street was replaced? I believe that bridge has been tendered for replacement recently?

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

I don't doubt the line has attracted new riders, but there's a theoretical and realistic limit to how many people can be added to a line. I also have my reservations about the quality of TTC's counts which rely on a mixture of Automatic counters on the new LRVs and visual counts for non-LRTs...

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Great article this quote is interesting Considering so many on here were quick to blindly take an offhand remark by the TTC Chair without looking at the data. I was highly sceptical that the line could support a 25% increase across the board.

I'm going to screen-capture your post and post it all over twitter to get people riled up to prove you wrong. /s I can see how some restaurants on King Street would be feeling the burn if they relied heavily on Uber eats to compliment foot traffic.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

It probably would've been easier to buy vehicles that could go forward and backwards when the time came where all the legacy vehicles were eliminated, and then rebuild loops with crossover tracks to avoid needing spacious loops.

Yup, YRT's service area is basically one of the largest service areas of any municipality in North America.

Oh so in other words VMC will become as much of a gongshow as Finch Station has been for the past 20 years.

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Yeah, I mean the whole system is grade separated. For all intents and purposes the Skytrain is essentially a subway. Not to mention the soil and other realities make building transit there cheaper. Let's also not forget all the investment pumped into two of those cities mentioned for winter...
