    2030 Commonwealth Games Bid

    This isn't arbitrary. It's evidence-based: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globalization_and_World_Cities_Research_Network

The prominence is $ related. This happens all over the world (not just in Alberta). Vancouver is Montreal's equal these days - which is a little ridiculous considering the very large size difference. Swiss cities smaller than Winnipeg are a known quantity all over the planet. African cities...

Calgary is that much more prominent. And that's ok!

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

No problem. I find that Canadians usually only conceptualize seasonal flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and the like. But then there's Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Lima and more... and those flights like to connect through LAX.

Los Angeles is a wonderful connection point to Latin America (along with Phoenix) from here. This is a good thing.

Any whispers here about leasing - anyone confirmed or kicking tires?

Is Edmonton worse for this? Or do we simply experience our share of great buildings that are levelled - to simply be left to weeds or as an open pit? Jasper and 116 (old Kelly's) The Emerald & BMO sites on Jasper Jasper & 124 Street (former Found boutique) The list goes on... Is this a policy...

The good (well... actually bad) news for you is that you're all correct. Neither of these arguments are mutually exclusive. 1) Downtown Edmonton is not particularly dangerous for many individuals. The risk is largely lateral violence and crime that would have very few real impacts for a condo...

    Capital Line LRT

I second this! To anyone's knowledge, has this ever been looked at for feasibility? I'm not a planner, but I'm consistently surprised that this seemingly low hanging fruit hasn't gone forward.

To those who can translate this activity into something folks like me can understand - what is likely going on?

So who all is leased here? From what I'm hearing: Kind Ice Cream, Bibo Wine Bar and a Foundry Room expansion. Is this more or less correct?

I have unfortunate news for you. The Grizzlar's main location has been closed with signage on the door about not paying rent. Sadly, this one is probably toast...

Thank you! This cluster just keeps getting better and better. (Let's hope the additional humans help make 124 Street and area reach its potential)

Explain like I'm five please - Why doesn't policy prevent active retail from being torn down prior to a project being put on ice like this? This is very frustrating...

As someone who grew up in the Prairies - I cringe every time folks from this city irrationally attack Toronto (and Quebec) as if they're somehow undesirable. Nativism is gross.

    Ideal :)

    Capital Line LRT

I remain consistently surprised that a Capital Line stop at 95 Street to serve Little Italy/Chinatown/Boyle isn't #1 on the to-build list. I anticipate that the implications for dense infill, accessibility to services and transit for equity-seeking communities would all be significant.
