East Bayfront: Bayside (Waterfront Toronto/Hines/Tridel, Pelli Clark Pelli et al)

Laughing is for children. A "Toronto museum" might be interesting for Torontonians, but for tourists?

East Bayfront: Bayside (Waterfront Toronto/Hines/Tridel, Pelli Clark Pelli et al)

I think you underestimate the appetite tourists might have for a movie-related attraction. Much like you overestimate your talent for satire.

Waterfront: Portlands Sports Complex (8s?, RDH Architects) DEAD

I'm torn on this one. We shouldn't build something cheap here. We have to begin the development at the waterfront by setting a good example. It's worth it in the long run. That said, the city really can't afford to go so over budget on this. But hey, it's government. Overspending is what...

Sonder Hotel (was Templar, 348 Adelaide W, Rhed, 8s, Del Terrelonge) COMPLETE

Couldn't help but notice next door is the, ah, Invitation house. You know the one. Where you get those beautiful invitations people talk about. That one.

    Toronto Toronto | Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

I like it because it's different. It's risky. It's a bit ridiculous, but that's kind of what makes it cool. I like that it provokes a reaction. I see people taking photos of the ROM all the time and that wasn't happening before the addition.

East Bayfront: Bayside (Waterfront Toronto/Hines/Tridel, Pelli Clark Pelli et al)

If it's anything like these renders it will be very nice. Somewhere back in a different thread someone mentioned that a good attraction for Toronto would be a movie museum/attraction. I like that idea more and more. It could have photos and memorabilia from all of the movies shot in Toronto...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

I love that the campaign is focused on dirt rather than vision for the city. Isn't democracy grand?

Toronto Toronto | St Regis Toronto Hotel and Residences | 281.93m | 58s | JFC Capital | Zeidler

Great updates, everyone. Thanks for those. What really strikes me in those shots is the way BA Centre looks transparent when reflecting blue sky and clouds. Very nice.

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

Adam Vaughan's crusade doesn't bother me. Toronto nightlife is not under threat. Just "clubland," which probably ballooned to well beyond what it should have become. Aside from a few good places, it became mostly a string of generic clubs playing the same mediocre playlist of R&B and Hip Hop to...

Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

I've changed my mind about Ford recently. I used to think that his focus on cutting spending was a good thing and that maybe it's what's needed to balance out seven years of Miller, but now I feel that he's a one trick pony and that it takes a lot more than cutting costs to be a good mayor.

Niagara bashes Toronto in ad campaign

Ha! Nicely put. I reject this whole "hell in a handbasket" argument. It's nonsense.

Toronto Rises as the New Capital of Cool

The specifics of the article are not what's important here. What's important is that it's a positive article about the city.

Toronto in decline..... (Back in MY day we had respect!)

Think of it as short term pain for long term gain. We need immigrants to grow our economy in the long term, so we have to keep the doors open. Otherwise we would be saddled with an aging population, which is extremely problematic. This is what Japan is facing because of their low birth rate and...

    Bedbugs

It's likely you'll need to get your place sprayed anyway, even if you do the dryer thing. They can hide in the room where the floor meets the walls and other small cracks. When I had them, they didn't even live in the mattress or the bed. I checked it thoroughly and there was not a trace, which...

    Bedbugs

Can't remember, and no idea. It was just an exterminator. They know what to use. The guy was good, I thought. We didn't have them very bad. Not a full infestation, but they are still very stubborn to get rid of.

Rob Ford @ the Pride Parade?!

Not the point. Saying "assless chaps" is far funnier than simply "chaps."

Economic Impact - Pan Am Games

That's because we're clueless in Canada about amateur sport, outside of two weeks every four years.

    Bedbugs

I've had 'em. They suck. Got them from a hotel in NYC. Took three rounds of spraying to get rid of. What a nightmare.

    G-20 Summit in Toronto

Torontovibe: So what if they do pick up a tranny hooker? Who's gonna stop them?

Toronto in decline..... (Back in MY day we had respect!)

You could probably run for mayor on that platform, based on the quality of the candidates so far.
