Nobody forces adults to go to church, but kids have to go to the school their parents choose. Plenty of somewhat observant parents who would make that choice. As far as changing the status quo, it's complicated by the s. 93 of the Constitution Act, 1867. We are a pretty secular society, but you...

Folks? Really going all the way with the Ford-speak there, huh?

Sorry, I expressed myself poorly. Paternoster Square is soulless when compared with the rest of the City. It's a totally privatized space, which everyone realized during Occupy London when the main camp was set up next door at St. Paul's. The Toronto version I think will be better, because at...

Reminds me of Paternoster Square in London. In that context it's a little soulless, but better than much of what exists here. I think the fact that our version will have a residential component helps.

Those are the doors when you enter from College Park. They're not even visible when you're walking south through the corridor from the Food Court past Ritchie. To reach the doors you have to first walk down several flights twisting stairs. It's totally unintuitive.

That's a different building, the "Atrium on Bay". What's pictured here is the southwest corner of Yonge & Dundas.

The English ones are laid on sand and I don't know how they'd do with that much freezing/thawing. It's actually also quite common for sidewalks there to be done in very slick asphalt, which I doubt would hold up.Another reason why I think they use paving stones is that their utilities are buried...

My suspicion is that the current doors have something to do with the fire code. Can you have glass doors between buildings like this? I know they exist in the PATH further south.

I'm not an expert, but is that true? Section 34 of the Ontario Heritage Act, RSO 1990, c O.18, says that in order to demolish a building designated under section 29 (as "heritage") you have to apply to council. Section 34.1(1) says that you can appeal council's decision to refuse demolition (or...

I don't think you understand what a legal appeal entails. Because usually the Court of Appeal doesn't just reconsider the same evidence that the lower court did, and substitute its own decision as to the facts. Rather, the panel will defer to the earlier findings of fact and will only interfere...

This answer does not require a history degree: There was nothing there but grass. The north side of King between John and Simcoe was formerly Upper Canada College's sports field.

This is the last building before the cemetery, and you have to cross an intersection to get to it. If ever there were a building where retail isn't required, this is it.

One thing to keep in mind re the shuttle bus is that the railway underpass at Esther Shiner Boulevard is relatively new. When Leslie first opened the fastest way to walk to the store was to exit on Sheppard, walk up the long hill toward Canadian Tire, turn left at Provost, and then head south...

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

No, I don't think they would. I just think they're smaller than NYC stations. Whether or not they're more imposing than something made of iron, well...

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

Calgary isn't grade separated. There are many level crossings. Some have railway barriers (that drop very quickly) but the part downtown has no separation. It's very easy for a tourist to end up on the route. E.g. here. This setup does allow easy transfer to buses, although the LRT uses high...

Are you sure they don't reflect demand? If the buses were empty why are they being operated as frequent service? I don't see how being in the old city necessarily corresponds to lower demand on particular routes.

Not sure you're allowed to operate a train without looking where you're going. Also not sure that a reverse-facing camera is a safe substitute.

There is retail north of Blythwood, it just doesn't do very well. And the area is being redeveloped incrementally (see e.g. the Alaska condo, or the condos that have gone up at Alexandra. And that Budget lot has to go someday). Actually, at the intersection of Lytton/Blythwood and Yonge itself...
