Vocal minority who ironically claim they’re libertarian will be pleased. The majority won’t like it.

Well they can try if they want. But it’ll get dragged out in courts and in the meantime things can get built. Plus it’ll further piss off calgarian and albertan voters.

We’ll see if Council votes for the haves or the have nots. I think they’ll still pass this honestly. It will be good for Calgary and a start in getting more type of housing across the city.

Gotcha. Well it makes sense they’d finish off the Beltline Block. Similar to Cidex having the 3rd West Village Tower being completed, before moving onto the Hat at Elbow (which I hope they change the podium design for, I like the height of 170m+ though)

A big chunk of that yellow strip is going to be developed by One Properties, now that Metro Ford has relocated to Tara. Aren’t they going to be starting work on it in 2025?

Wow this is a great addition to Mahogany. Jayman is fast becoming my favourite developer in the city. If only more developments like this could happen closer to the inner city.

If only Calgary would start managing its land around transit stations like HK does. https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/operations/our-insights/the-rail-plus-property-model It’s a model to be copied. Translink in Vancouver is finally starting to do so as well.

    Calgary | The Sentinel | 24m | 6s | Arlington Street | Jackson McCormick

Can this please get cancelled? No really. This is such a wasted opportunity, and honestly shouldn’t be allowed to proceed. Go build this building anywhere in Calgary, not on 17th Avenue. It doesn’t look good and it’s far too low on the density. Can Calgary not set minimum density/height...

    Calgary | Quarry Rise South | 16m | 4s | Remington | Arcadis

How and why would Alberta do so? They’ve already spent a billion dollars getting everything ready, trains are selected and track will start being laid later this year. Can’t really kill things at this point without costing a fortune in broken contracts.

I’ve always felt that this kind of building will be great to be built all along Elvow drive instead of SFH.

    Calgary | Midtown Station | ?m | ?s | IBI Group

There are plans to redevelop that into Mixed Used, but I have not heard any movement since 2015 or so on that.

    Calgary | The Sentinel | 24m | 6s | Arlington Street | Jackson McCormick

The city needs to revoke their development permit if they try to go ahead with this. Remember Nenshi explicitly stating that this needs to be high density? Pepperidge farm remembers

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

The business case in Canada isn’t there for more to the regulations which are far too onerous. The fact that we have far more loopholes that are required to jump through than Norway scares off investors and rightly so. Canada just isn’t that business friendly, which is okay if you don’t mind...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

I am talking about the severe lack of LNGs. Easy example is Germany wanted natural gas from Canada so of course Trudeau said no. So they signed a deal with Qatar instead. We’re just missing out on opportunities left right and centre to the U.S. on this. We could be Australia or Norway, but that...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

That is true only if the Liberals stay in power. They aren’t really concerned with Canadians anymore, nor do they really give too much thought to growing the economy, there are too many interested parties that fail to realize that Canada is a resource rich nation and the world needs what we can...

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

Ive always thought that UofC needs a proper downtown campus, and imagine if they turned the empty Husky towers into University Dorms. It would make downtown far more vibrant that’s for sure.

There was also the Co-Op Development in Silverton/Silverado that was approved and it allowed for a building height of up to 50 metres and would have 2,000+ units over the area. I will have to see if I can find the plans.

There needs to be a T&T in the South. I don’t know why they’re hasn’t been one in SETON, Shawnessy or Township. There are enough up North.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

In the late 80s Downtown Vancouver and West End had about half the population of today so around 50k. That’s not a huge amount more than Calgary Downtown today (38k) and a similar size. Granted we aren’t going to urbanize the downtown for living quite like Vancouver did as Calgary can sprawl...
