Wow I haven’t been to Surrey in a long time, but it certainly looks to be improving (I was not remotely a fan when I went there over a decade ago). I think the change Calgary has already made with the land use bylaw, plus new suburban developments being a lot more mixed use will go far. Add in...

And now Calgary. It’s finally growing up and might become cosmopolitan in a decade or two.

Their nightmare is my dream lol. Minus the traffic, but NIMBYs love traffic that’s why they have so many cars.

That is good to hear. I really hope they follow Edmonton in abolishing them in all honesty.

    Calgary | 11th + 11th | 138.07m | 44s | Intergulf | Ramsay Worden

It’s very true. It always quite interesting to realize how empty our core is because of the empty parking lots. Fill them in!!

    They won’t. It’s Calgary.

Would love to see another dozen or so buildings of this quality in the beltline. Someday soon I’m sure I will.

NIMBYs are afraid of development with density, who knew. I can’t wait for NIMBYsm to die in North America. It’s long overdue.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

City living means a blockage of sunlight in all honesty. Any city in the world has that problem. At least Calgary is always sunny unlike most Global Cities.

    Calgary | Blume | 48m | 15s | Remington | Systemic Architecture

Oh that there were 6 (?) more buildings in future phases.

That would be brilliant if true. They turned out very nicely and it would be great to get 6 more nice suburban condos built.

That’s true. I would love it if this is a Concord group project in all honesty. Let’s hope it goes ahead.

Can’t we just not have anymore public engagement? No really it was already voted on. Just adopt it already.

    Calgary | Hat @ 14th Street | 94.48m | 28s | Cidex Group | NORR

That development shouldn’t even be allowed to proceed. It needs to be high density, not something that is for the suburbs.

    Calgary | Heritage Station Towers | 85m | 28s | Westcorp | GEC

Oh no that gigantic empty parking garage will finally fill in 😢

I guess The Broward is going to be starting construction soon. https://www.facebook.com/groups/359679508057001/permalink/1276910963000513/ https://trumanhomes.com/broward/

If the podium is the same material as the BMO Convention Center is using, it would be pretty good after seeing it. But it definitely won’t be incorporating that. It would make too much sense.

Oh okay. I hadn’t heard that it is scrapped. I like the proposal sans podium. For some reason Norr can’t design a good podium lol

Is this project planned to start next year after they’re done with The Hat @ 14th? I hope so, however they need to use other materials for the podium - we can’t have another west village podium as the gateway to the city and Rivers District.

I’m pleasantly surprised that they had the foresight to include ground floor retail in this plan. This development is turning out much better than expected. Is this randomly turning into one of the better TODs Calgary has developed so far? Granted we’ll see what it’s like when it’s fully built out.
