I quite like the lettering system for the streetcar routes actually. Succinct, classic, and maintains sufficient differentiation from bus routes. Argh, that GO map reminds me of the bad old days of GO :p

Even more than a solid argument against TTC control of things, this is a solid argument against suburban subways, just like Den said. On the evening news tonight we were treated to a lengthy clip of John Tory prattling on about how "furious" he is at this. Well, let's see him put his money where...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I can't speak for TigerMaster, but I certainly think the old livery is far better. Honestly, I don't see how enrobing the entire train cars in a garish blue and plastering a bunch of haphazard decals with "3" and the station names all over the train makes it look like anything but a bad...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

As I said before, there was nothing wrong with the previous SRT colour scheme. If a simple new coat or paint could've been applied to the cars in the existing livery, plus a bit of TLC on the interiors, the system could've looked so much newer and fresher. This blue livery is garish. No...

I have to honestly say, there was nothing wrong with the colour scheme that the SRT used previously. The stripe may have been a little 80s but it certainly wasn't out of place or obviously dated, and the Flexity in that scheme that 44 North made above actually looks pretty fantastic! (Something...

Certainly would be a more immediate and cost-effective choice than the subway. If the Flexities can perform well enough in the snow on downtown streets, they can likely do the same out in the Scarborough RT ROW as well. But giving Scarberians "streetcars" would never fly in the post-Ford world :p

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I saw this on the news tonight. As a science and statistics guy, I have to say that the methodology of their "experiment" is pretty poor: they used a single trip in each direction, so their sample size is basically nothing. Like you said, it happened to be on a day when GO was delayed by quite a...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

As it so happens that's exactly how I stumbled across these forums. I'm not the biggest poster - though I would be if I could find the time - but I found it hard not to start mouthing off about something, with enough time spent lurking :P I suppose also that the community of GTHA transit...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

One would hope that the extremely similar form factor between the Flexity Outlook and Freedom would have made the copy/pasting an obvious solution, but apparently not :P Side note, I've always wondered if anyone from TTC or Metrolinx ever does casually take a browse through these forums. I...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I have to agree that the TTC livery for the LRVs there is a little off. Maybe it's just my eyes, but the red seems too bright, which is an effect made worse by the over abundance of white. The Flexity livery is a pretty solid one as they go. Also, 44 North's GO-ALRT mock ups look fantastic...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Dear God, does this new design look awful. The terms "high school student" and "Microsoft Paint", which already have come up above, were the first things to come to mind. While the Photoshop of the RT cars in the new streetcar livery are interesting and not overall very bad, I actually have...

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Can you please cc Transport Canada on this argument? :p I'm not 100% convinced that a secondary hub won't become established, but I sure as hell know that any established airline is more likely to do so at Hamilton than the hypothetical Pickering monstrosity.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Mt. Pleasant is pretty fast-growing in suburban terms. Definitely the most important point is reaching at least Downtown Brampton station, since that's the location of the planned urban growth centre and mobility hub. Bramalea likely has such high ridership currently due to the large volume of...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Interesting! I suppose this is an example of http://i.imgur.com/MK3EpeY.jpg This is a real concern though. Similar to talk of ending off-peak service on Kitchener at Bramalea instead of Mount Pleasant, Metrolinx may be trying to take the easy route to begin with—and in the process make...

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Certainly Hamilton has the potential. If Air Canada can lead the way and others follow, and especially If the LRT does get built up to the airport in Hamilton, we can maybe see this ridiculous Pickering concept be finally put to rest.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I think the part about stations which lack service at all is the crux of the issue. Owing to the legally-entrenched monopoly of the TTC over passenger bus service within Toronto, GO buses leaving Union can't stop at those GO Stations (in this case, Kennedy/Agincourt/Milliken) that the trains...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Ah, this makes more sense then. Hourly off-peak would alone make a big difference—once more commuters from around the former Metro itself can place their faith in GO Transit as a reliable transit mode (I do wonder how many potential riders might feel uncomfortable parking at a GO Station...
  18. MrsNesbitt

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

Point. I suppose it depends on how finite the transit dollars to spend in a certain area are. If the choice is between significantly modifying RER/ST to reach the waterfront (especially if we eventually do get a downtown rail tunnel built) and an LRT or BRT on Queens Quay, then the latter is...
  19. MrsNesbitt

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

In classic Toronto fashion, let's satisfy transit needs in an area that will sorely need local transit with the least suitable mode possible. RER / SmartTrack will benefit from a stop near the Distillery District or West Don Lands to hit the eastern edge of downtown. All of the new districts...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

RFI on electric rolling stock and RFP on double-tracking Stouffville on the same day. GO is reaching big, and I like it :p Two interesting points about the article: 1) Why specifically the Agincourt to Unionville section as opposed to starting at Scarborough Junction and moving north? Is...
