TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Why not go a step further and be like a South American banana republic, and require "donations" to the CPC to get any government service done? "Sorry sir, you have to give $100 to the CPC coffers if you want me to process this tax refund form..."

COMING SOON! Bridging the Design Gap - a UT design charette

Someone should design a bridge shaped like a condom: a translucent tube with a rim on the south end, and with the north end shaped like a small bulb from which visitors go through. It would signify the extent to which we're being f cked by the inaction and complacency of City Hall.

Easy-to-use bike rental scheme planned for Toronto

Perhaps the city could sell access cards with $300 deposit, and with the rest as pay-as-you-go. That way any bike thieves will be deterred because no city bike is worth $300.

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Or alternatively, the TTC can spend a lot less amount to, you know, fix those problems and not need such expensive diversions.

    Steeles RT

Judging by the rhetoric of politicians, it looks like a Berlin-like municipal wall is more likely to be built along Steeles Avenue than a rapid transit line.

I wonder what are the "health reasons" which are making WCC upset. If GO decides to string the wires over the tracks, they will surely complain about how the're an eyesore which lower the property value. Failing that, they'll say the wires give off dangerous electromagnetic radiation which...

    Conservative Immigration Policy

Last time they did that Harper ran away and hid behind the Queen's skirt for weeks.

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

Why can't we have express non-stop trains on the Toronto - Montreal and Toronto - Ottawa routes every, say, 30 minutes and local trains on the same routes every 30 minutes? Just because the train passes on a corridor does not oblige every train to stop at every station. Heck, our own GO Transit...

    Cracks appear in Tory alliance

This is certainly true, but for the Liberals the regionalism was not a huge issue in the 2006 race (perhaps because all three candidates were from Ontario/Quebec). The Conservatives are a coalition of Alliance/Reform activists with roots in Alberta and more moderate PC-like people from the...

    Conservative Immigration Policy

I'd rather take a course on humour in Ancient Greek drama than on Canadian history, but that's another matter.

You can hope that Iggy and his team will be more receptive to urban concerns, because they are apparently snobs from the urban ivory tower. But you can also hope for the Leafs to win a Stanley Cup in our lifetimes. ;)

    CN/CP Merger, A Good Idea?

Perhaps a deal can be negotiated with CN and CP, where the government takes control of the fixed assets and charges for access for them, and the freight companies retain their freight business. They might welcome having the track maintenance being taken off their books.

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

Alas, it's more likely CCRAP will promise a Saskatoon - Churchill HSR than Quebec - Windsor. It's also more likely that the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup in the next 5 years.

Standard vs TTC gauge; An LRT Standard in Ontario?

I hope this does not entail regauging the existing streetcar system. If it did, I'll put money on the regauging project being permanently "suspended" and permanently "temporarily replaced" with buses.

    Cracks appear in Tory alliance

It's clear from this thread that Steve's $3 billion slush fund has partially gone into paying people on the internet to toe the Party Line. Hey, it happens in China...

Dubai: An Architectural Masterpiece layered on a Third World Country?

^^ Oil production is already long past its peak. They just needed to build a Disneyland-on-the-Gulf to keep the party going for as long as possible.

    Sad but true

Ever heard of "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"? It's especially true for a group of people incapable of independent thought.

    TTC assault incidents

Has anyone else seen "incidents" on the TTC involving a passenger and a worker? How do they react, and what really happened? This afternoon I was taking the 53 bus from Pacific Mall to Finch subway station. Somewhere between Bayview and Leslie two teenage boys went on the bus and haggled with...

    Conservative Immigration Policy

The system is being abused, but it's not so much a problem as political red meat for CCRAP's base. It may be needed to end automatic citizenship for anyone born inside the country to keep "birth tourists" away, and children of citizens born abroad should be required to physically visit Canada...
