    VIA Rail

I didn't bother to check now, but as I remember, a surprising amount of the bridges are already big enough.

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I've just agreed to disagree (with the 2006 plan pining), this circular argument has literally been going on for years. On an unrelated (to quoted) note, the only reason I recommended a terminus at Billing's is that after that you might have stations served by LRT, BRT, and the subway/more...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I'm actually curious to see how it works in practice. One transfer is fine, but two is overkill, especially if one of them is on the same line. Although if they get the timing down, it could function kind of like a People Mover system, so we'll see I guess. Also, the people talking about...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I am very happy with what O'Brien did. I don't think the current LRT did was inevitably going to follow. Better to do it right the first time. You do have a good point about a second line being better than a transfer, though. The current setup will eventually demand a second downtown route...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'd rather the whole thing have been grade separated too but now as there's no chance of that, this will be a very interesting case study on the merits of at-grade LRT. Maybe it just might work! I guess Kitchener will be the first look at this kind of system we get.

    2018 Provincial Election Transit Promises

The section being twinned in this case would be Arnprior-Renfrew. There have been quite a few (fatal) accidents on this highway and the political pressure mounts every time it happens. Not saying that people don't die on other highways. A lot of county leaders want the highway twinned all the...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Subways are objectively better than LRT. Not that I necessarily have anything against LRT, but it would be stupid to replace a perfectly good subway with something worse. Not to mention that it would be a crazy amount of expenditure to implement a worse solution than is currently in place. You...

    2018 Provincial Election Transit Promises

The 417 will definitely get extended, he's been pushing for that since forever. He's a bit of an outsider to the Toronto scene, although he's been an MPP long enough that he might have an idea what's going on. I feel that he might have more of an emphasis on rural Ontario, although I'm sure Ford...

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

The Trillium line is almost all single track, and there are no plans to change that. The two passing sidings will be extended slightly to allow for longer trains, and one of them will be extended enough to accomodate an extra station, I believe. The line will probably remain as unreliable as it...

    VIA Rail

Forgetting about rigging, would BBD be more likely to get the contract with the tariffs? Or would the supply chain go through the States anyways?

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I would actually say Islington-Scarlett, although the river crossing might complicate things.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Just so you know, though, only part of the line has the crossing gates. The rest is run of the mill LRT.

Metrolinx: Bombardier Flexity Freedom & Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs

No advantage really, they just wanted to save money. They'll probably regret it. Although apparently they did make this model of train a bit wider than usual to compensate somewhat. EDIT: That's my impression, but to verify I'd have to go through all the years-old news.

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

I hear Doug Ford musing about scarborough and sheppard subways. Any chance the RL will be shelved?

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It would be cool of someone took a picture of a Flexity going over the big bridge in Parry Sound!

    The Future of Bombardier

Apparently Bomardier got the 292% duty quashed

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

I don't think the DRL is as sure of a lock as some people think... It will happen eventually (rather like New your's Second Ave subway), but if it's to happen any time in the next 20 years we really need our politicians to push hard now and not let it up until there are literally shovels in the...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Also, it looks like that comment might have supposed to have been a reply to another comment saying that there wouldn't be people coming downtown from Finch.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I'm actually starting to wonder if Alstom's cars for Ottawa are running late. Not at the same level as Bombardier's but I'm not sure if assembly will be done by May. Coincidentally, the opening date has moved back, but the more obvious cause of this has been construction delays on other parts...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

IMO, TTC is better off squeezing everything everything they can get out of this contract, and that includes the extra 60 cars. If they still need more, then they should go back to the tendering process for an extra 40, 60, or however many cars they figure they'll need. Cancelling the contract...
