    Iron Works Building

I'll keep my fingers crossed, but even subsidized spaces need customers and it's hard enough to convince people to go downtown let alone literally metres from homeless addicts defiantly showing off their stolen goods by the rail path.

    Iron Works Building

I hope so too, but if they can't fill any CRUs in The Quarter Note Hotel I can't imagine this will fare much better being a block away from the Bissell tent city.

From this afternoon: Photo turned out to be pretty blurry, hopefully still conveys how progress is going at least.

    Brewery District | DIALOG

Is it really an issue of parking, or failure to fix disorder? There's plenty of parking in downtown Edmonton, there's plenty of ritzy shops in other city's downtowns...

    Alberta Politics

Interesting paper on provincial powers vs. section 35 treaty protections. Personally I feel the complaints from Onion Lake Cree Nation outlined in the article seem kind of vague.

    Wayfinding Strategy

Yah, that one's been a bare skeleton for awhile now... just embarrassing considering it's right in front of city hall like that.

    2023 Predictions

Unless I've missed some rumblings about it as part of some wider Chinatown renewal project (which would be nice) I don't think there's much chance 'Future Station' will be being completed anytime soon. If we're talking about infill stations I think the planned new Coliseum station + 115 Ave...

First Nations church on 96 St. last night.

    Downtown Crime

I believe both the Loaded Pierogi (RIP) and Burger Priest on Jasper were those companies' first expansions outside Ontario as well.

    Miscellaneous

Would have hoped for something more ambitious than a renovation for this corner, but it'll certainly be a big improvement regardless.

    Chinatown

Checked out Paper Birch Books on the way home last night. Really nice, reminds me of a smaller version of The Edmonton Book Store on Whyte.

How on Earth is it 'devoid of empathy' to suggest we spread out the burden of hosting these services? I'm genuinely confused by your post.

    Edmonton Skyline

Pretty happy with the views from my new office space.

    LRT Safety

How dare the criminals not take how this makes city council look into account! According to the articles both these events happened in the last week, so I'm not sure you can really say the media are trotting out old stories for political purposes or anything.

While I would agree those are certainly attaractors as well for homeless, I call BS on the idea that those things only exist in northeast of Downtown. As we saw in 2020 with the camp in Light Horse Park clearly homeless are happy to exist south of the river too. Why not use this opportunity...

    The Quarters

Some good points for sure. I'd be curious if there are some examples from the past though of non-market housing being built stimulating private investment in a similar environment though. I'm still pretty skeptical as I can think of at least a few counter examples where larger scale public...

    Chinatown

^This. The encampments understandably gather around these service providers where they get built. The lots adjacent to the Bissell Centre became tent towns because the Bissell Centre is there not the other way around.
