I'm a terrible Albertan. It took me about a minute to realize it wasn't the Pabst Blue Ribbon Canada National Finals, and I was trying to figure out what sport this is and how I get in on it

Personal safety awareness: never trust a grown man going slow or weaving on a BMX bike in a downtown area.

Whether one likes this development or not, there is certainly more people walking in that area - whether out of curiosity or not. I think there's something to be said about it getting some street-level activity. I hope another brewery or two eventually open north of that location along 120th.

    Edmonton | Roxy Theatre Rebuild | ?m | 2s | Theatre Network | Group2

This is going to be such a great (returning) addition to the area, it really adds to the cultural appeal. That stretch of 124 (between 106 and 109) is really turning into the premier location in terms of retail, commerce, and community activity. One of the most fun areas of town to keep an eye on.

West Block is one of the best developments by GEC (the use of timber columns there is just outstanding, among other things). If this is similar, I have high hopes and am looking forward to this.

    Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

Climate and isolation is very much huge contributing factors to deciding to move to Edmonton - or at least for those with the luxury of choosing between multiple places. But with that said, a city that embraces and struts through the cold weather is one that piques interest for those...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I actually found the Edmonton-Iceland route to be a fast, enjoyable way into Europe. Six hours to Keflavik, a brief stopover (great airport, and the country is definitely worth visiting), and then easy to get to Dublin/London/Amsterdam/Frankfurt/Barcelona and many other spots. I get going...

    Edmonton | CNIB Redevelopment | 106m | 32s | ONE Properties | Wallman Architects

I've been torn on the retail experience so far of cannabis stores. On one hand, I support marijuana use and am glad its legally available. Long overdue. On the other hand, the way these stores look on street level remind me of liquor/porn/cash money shops that just looks . . . cheap and...

    Edmonton | Roxy Theatre Rebuild | ?m | 2s | Theatre Network | Group2

Nothing but good things for the area, specifically Washoku, Kotouki, Northern Chicken and Three Vikings which all have evening dine-in hours (in normal times). Irrational Brewing is going to see a nice bump from the Roxy being finished too.

    Edmonton | Oliver Exchange | ?m | 2s | Beljan Development | Hodgson Schilf Evans

What a great addition, at least from the visuals. One of the most eclectic and community-driven areas of central Edmonton.

    Edmonton | Prairie Sky Gondola | 76.2m | ?s | Prairie Sky | DIALOG

I actually think a gondola ride when it's snowing outside in the winter would be absolutely spectacular, and would lend well to being a Winter City attracting tourists. Gondolas very much lend well to the cold weather experience.

    Downtown

Perhaps, but having worked out at all of Goodlife Eau Claire, Goodlife Stephen Ave, and WHC on 7th, The Y at Eau Claire was hands down the nicest, best facility around. Lots of space, great natural light, squash courts, basketball courts, track, swimming pool, it has the most full-featured gym...

    Miscellaneous

Underrated stretch of commercial and residential IMO. 116 between 105 and 107 seems like a good pocket for foot traffic, small retail, and on the cusp of benefitting from the upcoming Valley Line West and the revamp of 105 Avenue.

    Edmonton | Iron Horse Line / Station Park | ?m | 6s | Beljan Development | Hodgson Schilf Evans

Luckily the stretch along Gateway Boulevard can hide it when driving in towards downtown. The Beljan development and hopefully quite a few trees could help obscure it nicely. And if nothing else, at least it's a bookend for "East" Whyte Ave and creates a private sound barrier against Gateway...

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

Calgary just put a Superstore in the East Village, literally two blocks away from the tallest towers in the City. Edmonton is also putting up a grocery market in the Ice District as we write this. Mom and Pop shops are good, but let's be realistic - if you want people to live downtown you...

Definitely the right decision. Could be a great event or community space venue.

    Edmonton | FARM | ?m | 2s

Great picks! Washoku is good sushi but although not technically in Edmonton, Kobachi in Sherwood Park is hands down the best sushi place in the EMA. I've been to Tsukiji Market more than a few times over the years (vacation, work) and this is as close as it gets to freshness, quality, and...

    Edmonton | FARM | ?m | 2s

What do you mean it's not the destination? That intersection is basically a power center for retailers - Three Vikings, Meuwlys, Northern Chicken, Duchess, Zwicks, and soon to be Irrational Brewing and MODA. You can't just ignore 107 and pretend 124th is the only stretch that matters. 107 has...

    Edmonton | FARM | ?m | 2s

I agree, I just wish the traffic wasn't so heavy and fast moving in the area, particularly along 107th. There has to be a way to improve this if they want a pedestrian, street-friendly experience with all those great retailers around. Perhaps some street scaping to create a bit of a buffer...
