    Toronto Toronto | Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Minising is more catchy, pleasant-sounding if one's speaking without knowledge of the language, better flowing, and easily broken down into memorable syllables, even though it's topographically less relevant (just 'Island'). Mini-Sing or Mi-Nising. I think that'll be what unofficially catches...

Las Vegas North-Plans For Niagara Falls

There is still some good architecture in Niagara Falls, but nearly all of that is inherited from the past. I think the issue of the hotels and poor planning in Niagara Falls ultimately falls to the city and its lack of vision that has resulted in piecemeal development within a rather ugly inner...

Las Vegas North-Plans For Niagara Falls

I think in general the issue with trying to apply Las Vegas-style tourism to Niagara Falls is that Niagara Falls doesn't have Las Vegas weather, its airport, and the 12-months of mass tourism it can sustain*- and hence the main mass tourism seasons here will always be far more limited, along...

    New University...where should it go?

Not so much university-related, but: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/seneca-closure-1.7364762

Saw a ‘for lease' or a 'for sale’ sign on the site.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Looks like the SDTC is the brewing scandal of the day: https://www.cp24.com/news/canada/2024/10/04/parliament-ground-to-a-halt-over-conservative-allegations-of-liberal-corruption/ https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/rcmp-green-slush-fund-house-ground-halt

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

I think this is an interesting idea too, but I wonder how it’ll be done? I guess the cameras at the ramps stop tolling trucks? I think that this act would then need to also be accompanied by a ban on truck traffic on the 401.

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

It would be interesting to see how free or cheap usage of the highway during certain periods of time would change travel patterns and behaviour.

President Joe Biden's United States of America

So... - Israeli invasion of Lebanon - Iranian cruise missile attack on Israel - National Guard being sent to the Middle East - Hurricane Helene devastates North Carolina - Ukraine has just lost Vuhledar/Ugledar - The largest US longshoreman strike has just started Lots of pots on fire right now!

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

IMO an alternate reading is that the 401 tunnel is a misdirection and the ultimate goal is to lead the public towards a buy-out of the 407 (despite the denials) or perhaps some sort of co-habitation/public subsidy to make it free to use, or to push the 413 as a 'cheaper' alternative. It's just...

    Shabby Public Realm

I noticed that some areas around the city are definitely more heavily-tagged than before, especially on some elements of infrastructure like retaining walls. Also passed by an alleyway near Queen-Bathurst and there were crusties/junkies literally straight-up smoking crack in broad daylight...

Toronto Toronto | AGO: Dani Reiss Modern and Contemporary Gallery | 48.35m | 6s | AGO | Diamond Schmitt

I think demolishing is too much, but I would say that perhaps there is room for facadism and a new multi-level gallery behind the Victorians running the length of Dundas. Perhaps even some of the small retail spaces can be retained in a new design, just to avoid turning Dundas into an...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Oops! Looks more like the Trudeau Liberals got a whiff of this story and tried to pre-empt it. 🙄 A special reminder that even if you voted for the Liberals, that did not give them the mandate to demolish and compromise our immigration system...

    Toronto Toronto | Nobu Residences Toronto | 156.66m | 45s | Madison Group | Teeple Architects

Those brick facades are unimpressive design-wise, but their combined presence is much felt and appreciated compared to the 'what could likely have been'- a plain wall of glass, spandrel, fake brick, or precast.

    Keir Starmer's United Kingdom

So the UK is back onto a diet of austerity yet again. Can’t say much more for a country whose trajectory increasingly resembles one of a middle-income country.

    New rides at Wonderland

26 years is now historic? The parabolic arch form is nice, I wish there was a second use for it as sculpture.
