    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

It would not benefit CN at all. As I mentioned, since it is an ONR contract to rebuild this segment (RFQ previously posted) I am only assuming that ONR has title to the property. I don't have a employee timetable or Canadian Trackside Guide but assume that CN property ends at the hard barrier...

    VIA Rail

"They" and "their buses" who? That's been the foundation of the discussion. Apparently the report said VIA was unsuccessful in their efforts to secure buses.

    VIA Rail

Stranded, grumpy hungry passengers is so not a federal emergency response issue. Unless it degrades to the point that public safety is a concern, it's not even a primary provincial or local emergency services issue. It is a too-easy trap to upload to the federal government (the provinces and...

No. It was the alignment of the CN Newmarket (previously Alderdale) subdivision that crossed the ONR and continued westward through the city to Capreol. The ONR yard is to the south in the image below and the Temagami Sub mainline heads to the upper right. You can see a bit of the connecting...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Here's a Google Earth shot. You can sort-of see the old CN ROW running lower right-upper left across the ONR and the old connecting track arcing to upper right (grey).

They did, but CN abandoned it in the mid-1990s. Rail was still in place north of Old Callander Rd. probably to near where the diamond was but it was badly overgrown and unusable. If any of the old connecting track still exists it would be unusable as well. Seeing as ONR put out the tender for...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Update on Northlander prep. They are grubbing out the alignment for the CN-to-ONR connecting track in North Bay. This is from the current end-of-track on the CN Newmarket Sub at Old Callander Rd. looking north along the former CN ROW. Off in the distance they will be building a connecting...

They also pay correspondingly higher registration fees (much higher now the Herr Ford reduced personal vehicle fees to zero) along with fuel taxes.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

It would be an interesting legal exercise to consider the implications of banning a certain class of vehicle from a major highway. It would be a different argument than, for example, banning trucks from city streets or banning pedestrians, bicycles, etc. from most major highways because those...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I'm not the brightest bulb on the string, and I sort of get the concept of 'induced demand', but there must be other factors at play. Population growth will obviously increase demand on everything from roads to transit to sidewalks, but four-laning Hwy 11 to North Bay, 69/400 to Sudbury or Hwy...

    VIA Rail

Does the Empire Builder (at least the one you are on) seem to have the same national and international tourist demographic? The quality of the services and amenities abord Canadian seem to be the cachet they are marketing. I read one review that said doing Coach for 40+ hours is not for the...

    Toronto Police Service Reformation

    VIA Rail

That would require the government walking away from the remote communities service. I think as UrbanSky has shown us, none of them outside of the corridor are 'profitable', which is probably consistent with many other inter-city services. Curious why they would need a crew car. I don't think...

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

You're missing a key point. Part of solution is to pay some friendly consulting companies a trunkload of money to pretend to chew on a pointless project for a few months.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

That's a lot of cost for a very small and scattered population. Of that very small population, how much of it urges to travel to Toronto on a regular basis. Do the Sudbury - North Bay buses regularly fill up in this stretch? Are you assuming so kind of rail-based induced demand ('there is a...

I don't know if the Commission has definitively stated the schedule. Depending on what press you check, it is reported as both daily and 4-7 times/week. West Nipissing is about 13K population scattered over a very large area. Sturgeon Falls itself is about 7K.

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

I do believe the MTO has long range plans to re-align Hwy 11 (not sure about 35/115). Trying to shoe-horn a controlled access freeway into the current alignment would require the expropriation of many, many businesses and residences. Regardless, not related to this thread's topic.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Not wanting to diminish anyone's physiological reaction, but the fetal alcohol syndrome warnings were a response to the huge social implications associated with a permanent and life-long physiological condition. While the warning has general application, it is targeted at a particular segment...
