Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

This would be interesting if the idea was to bury the 401 and build affordable/public housing on the freed-up land above with transit baked into the plan to create transit-oriented development across 55km across Toronto. Would eliminate a major blight and could re-calibrate the corridor towards...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It feels like they've been planning this extension to the airport forever. I understand there's unique jurisdictional considerations, having to interface with GTAA, Federal, Provincial, and Municipal agencies, but it seems crazy that we're still in limbo about connecting one of the busiest...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I don't disagree. I personally think the fact like 80% of the corridor is grade separated with a spur as LRT in the east makes the LRT advantage moot. Unfortunately, the decision is made and at least we'll get something that's better than a bus and at least can achieve some decent reliability...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This line is being built, managed, and operated by Metrolinx, who is contracting out the design and build, as well as operating contracts to organizations that are not the TTC. Also, Eglinton is being built for different train technology, and specs that really doesn't have any overlap with...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Would be egregious, but not surprising that a mistake like this could occur. Big complex project, and in my experience working on this project way back at the onset (no longer thankfully) there was a lot of learning that had to occur within Metrolinx since this was one of the first major...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Took a drive along the Finch West corridor on Sunday and took some progress photos. Not sure I agree with using a smooth curb to separate bikes and traffic, especially when most of the LRT RoW seems to have smooth curbs to enable emergency services to travel through. Wondering if anyone has...

    Car free Niagara Falls

It's a cool idea, that probably has merit given how busy and difficult it is to drive, anyway, during peak seasons. Why not give some more space back to the public realm to benefit greater numbers of people? You could even design some flexibility so that more space is given to pedestrians in...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

A lot has changed since the pandemic, and the route has been delayed while we've had record population growth. I'm excited to see how it all plays out when it opens! I was just curious what others' thoughts were. Glad everyone seems to think we have nothing to worry about.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

That's unfortunate. The way you've explained it, it makes sense why they don't want to draw attention to it.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Does anyone have some context for when the long-term plan for Eglinton Connects is planned to be built? I've noticed the City promoting Eglinton TOday which the material says is an interim solution to Eglinton Connects, but I'm struggling to find any concrete commitment to when the...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

fair enough if that is the plan. The information on EglintonToday's web portal and the notice I received made no mention of it so I was concerned, but if it's a matter of creating an interim solution that will be upgraded over time that would make sense.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but didn't the original Eglinton Connects anticipate a rebuild of the street with cycle tracks in the boulevard? I would be able to confirm but as is typical with the city they just remove all the previous documents from public access and essentially just say a study...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

Pedestrians will still need to cross the road. Which means lights will have to change cycles so capacity would be hampered as roadway volume increases. Any form of mobility has a maximum theoretical capacity. We will still be asking the same questions, and having the same concerns about...

    Toronto Toronto | Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

I used to work in the area and stopped by here quite a bit. Hard to believe it's been this long.

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

What's been going on with the Gateway lands around Langstaff? Also between 28:30 and 30:00 of the video was painful...for the VP of the subway project and technical expert. I guess you don't need to know why you're designing a subway

    TTC: Easier Access Phase III

How does this take three years to complete? Is it because it's being completed are really small intervals to reduce costs?

That's not how consulting works lol

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Not to mention....we may have emerging technologies and other urban/planning changes that may change how the city functions in 50 years. Planing for further than 20 or 30 years is basically like throwing darts at a board.

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It really is a shame that we're so focused, in Toronto, on building entire lines in one go rather than allowing things to be gradually built over time. I wonder if it's because of how our approvals process for TPAPs and EAs function whereby you essentially have to have a fairly detailed idea on...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

There was a point when this would have been true. Unfortunately, ever since Rob Ford became Mayor, they've been solely focused on "gotcha" journalism and are more concerned about stirring the pot than actually providing the facts sot hat the reader can make their own decisions. Can't really...
