    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

This past winter, the Richmond, Adelaide, and Sherbourne bike lanes were plowed surprisingly well. I was impressed.

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

Agree - it must be close to 50/50 private/public. I was surprised the private ratio was so high.

Areas that have seen less gentrification than expected

Really interested in this thread. Agree that East Chinatown seems to refuse to gentrify! It reminds me of this article: The Factors Inhibiting Gentrification in Areas with Little Non-market Housing: Policy Lessons from the Toronto Experience...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Proper used Dutch bikes are like EUR50 in Amsterdam. You could buy a round trip ticket to Schiphol and a bike to send back for less than $740+tax. Just an idea! I can't imagine riding a brand new bike in Toronto.

Great point. Gerrard really needs a lane - the next closest E-W corridor is Shuter, which is some way south.

Wow - what is your source? And at what intersection/street?

Richmond/Adelaide update: these lanes are still lovely. Was in a pack of 20+ cyclists at Jarvis & Adelaide late yesterday afternoon. The cycle counter still exists on Richmond at Jarvis. It's so nice to have critical mass now!

    Regent Park

Gears in West Don Lands (by Corktown Common) just opened up with a good selection of cruiser and utility bikes. WDL>RP again!

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Counterpoint: Cycling is on the upswing in Toronto, partly because new cyclists are being drawn in by new cycle lanes. The misbehaving cyclists Skeezix and Steve write about are not belligerent, but just new. Everyone was new once, and not everyone has a way of learning about the rules of the...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

My commute does nothing for my fitness, but wonders for my noggin. Sometimes it really is the best part of my day!

Great news, that stretch is a blight...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Traffic counters are up in the eastern part of the lanes now (around Jarvis).

Oddly, retail in the West Don Lands is looking much better: Running Room, Tabule, Dark Horse...

Agree completely. The Richmond/Adelaide lanes seem to have a Male/Female 50/50 split, with many non-performance bikes and seemingly new cyclists. A number of people in my building have taken up cycling to work because of these lanes...they've literally created new cycle commuters.

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

The Gardiner was shut down for repairs all weekend. What other work did they do? It looks like they gave it a cleaning and repainted the lane markings.

Well done - hope it is working out for you! I start from Cabbagetown as well, and use the Richmond / Adelaide lanes to get across the core and they run basically to Strachan. Less scenic than the lakeshore for sure, but quicker. Have you tried the new lanes? Google map w/ the route...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Spring update: loads of traffic in the Richmond/Adelaide lanes (eastern pilot from Bay to Parliament). I was in a train of 8 yesterday at Jarvis & Richmond. It's a delight.

AB, I ride a single speed Dutch bike bought on the other side of the Atlantic for about C$50. It's 40 years old and I've owned it for 4. I ride daily, often in winter as well. Best part is the enclosed crankcase. Yes, it's a step through ("ladies") model.

    Cabbagetown

Yuck. I understand there are a few similar landlords about (the owner of the former Labor of Love location on the N side of Carlton, for instance).
