I believe it was because they wanted to eliminate the merge lane for space and/or safety reasons. That ramp was for westbound York Mills drivers only - now they just use they one that was already there for the eastbound York Mills drivers. http://torontoist.com/2008/06/ghost_of_the_dvp/

The Archives has photos of the Dominion Hotel in 1945 with tower and 4th floor(?). If you use 'Search the Archives' you might be able to find pictures of that stretch of Queen as well. http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=7cb4ba2ae8b1e310VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

Based on the shape, I'd say yes to a), and based on Goldie's photos the building was tiny because it was chopped in half. Some time between 1962 and 1965 - probably for subway construction

Great, you solve the wwwebster's grand mystery the day after he goes away... True, that. The 571 Wilton Avenue address was short-lived. 1913 Goad`s (but why no house drawn on the lot?) 1911 Canadian Census, 19 Elliott Street Frederick Ward, carter, age 53, born England, immigated 1888...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

And the houses that are there look like they could have been there in 1921, but don't look anything like the ones in the photo. Looking at the 1924 Goad's of the area around Dundas & Parliament, most of the numbers on the north/south streets are much lower than 571, so I'm not sure it's even...
