I'm Not A City Planner, But I Play One in Video Games

I too was thoroughly disappointed in the game’s performance issues. It’s visually beautiful and I had lots of fun making towns up to 10-20k population, beyond that your cpu will melt. The simulation is too ambitious.

There’s a lot going on here, crews will be taking full advantage of the two massive sites. There will be a TBM heading north (then east) to Queen/Victoria and a mined tunnel heading south (and west). Spoils from both are presumably returning here.

The cut section of road looks like it will trace the path between some old catch basins. There used to be a parking lot ahead of where they’re cutting, this is most likely removal or modification of unused stormwater piping that runs under the park.

Bird’s eye view of spoil pits with excavated material. Nothing particularly exciting but figured it could be brought forward.

Two new, more specific notices for the east corridor works, which are moving quickly. First, confirmation of track shifting: Next, a notice of tree removals prepping for work on the opposite side:

The entire TBM doesn’t need to emerge before it begins disassembly. They have a little over 50 metres of space to work with, before hanging over the DVP. I looked it up to help prove my point and I happened upon this very recent video of the TBM disassembly on Vancouver’s Broadway subway...

OT: Not sure you’ve heard this recent adage, the word delve has gained some notoriety with chatGPT heavily inflating its use. The language model is constantly trained on internet content, since it spits out so much on the web these days there’s a positive feedback loop making the word more and...

I just don’t see it working without significantly degrading the express service potential on Lakeshore east/Stouffville. I suppose that will just be the consequence we accept…

Union is out of question as we’ve committed to delivering service that uses the entire width of the Lakeshore ROW. The clear favourite in this debate is Summerhill. It will, at least, come with the cost of a freight bypass elsewhere but it’s the most ideal ROW.

Corridor closure coming up in two weeks (Fri Nov 8 – Mon Nov 11) for track installation and relocation. There’s a good chance we see trains on this new bridge thereafter. Edit: didn’t see the construction notice already shared in the main OL thread.

Appears to be a stock pile, it doesn’t necessarily indicate work is starting. My guess: the pile location is the most out of the way from either of the developments. Road gets built after dirt is used on the park, during construction of north site.

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I think there's a potential play for something like this when the 4th track comes: The corridor can operate at high capacity with 3 tracks through Long Branch as it is a local station. I believe Port Credit will be a stop also for most express trains, so it can benefit greatly from the 4th...

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It’s becoming more clear how it will look with complete LRT plus 4 tracks. There will never be one staircase to switch platforms. The LRT will have vertical access to street level only. There will be two island platforms for GO accessed by the existing tunnel. Based on the GO bridge width...

This is my take as a former high-performance HMI designer. (+) Strict design patterns are followed in each repeated contextual block, every block reads the same in content and style (+) In particular the high contrast arrow element provides a fast visual cue when scanning any sign (+) All...

That’s one hell of a drive thru! They are not moving it off site, the east facing wall will live just south on Simcoe st for the entirety of construction. And the north facing wall is reinforced and protected in place.
