    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Looks like a good solution. Didn't see that on Davenport pics. Moved on.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I appreciate how unwelcome some of my opinions are, but understand that we come from different life experiences & perspectives. I have no problem being an outlier in a pro cycle track forum, as that is exactly who should hear about the well meaning but unintended impacts to their advocacy. I...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

While I don't dispute the benefit for placing bike lanes on Davenport, these are the exact type of bike lane that cause inaccessibility issues for the disabled. I understand they are cheaper than elevating the lane to the level of the sidewalk, but they are a serious barrier for wheelchairs and...

Wondering why they would not agree to the 6 retail units?

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

To suggest that reduced cycling due to inclement weather is mindlessly parroting anti cycle-infra points does not boost your case. It's an inconvenient fact that is noted by turbanplanner in the very next comment. Only 20% of cyclists continue through the winter. That's an 80% drop, so that...

For sure, but the payoff is just so much greater with an added 20 floors, and that appears to have become the norm, not the exception. As for planning risk, it strikes me as pretty small with the OLT seemingly all in on high rises.

The City of Toronto's new Chief Planner is..... Jason Thorne

@AlexBozikovic, in his efforts to highlight issues is prone to exaggerations bordering on dogma. Where are the Mayan pyramids of which he speaks? He seems to have a beef with the low rise historical neighbourhoods in that they are not mowing them down to make way for utopian high rises likened...

Can someone explain this process. Will the city hold up (can they) the development at site plan approval if they have wind concerns? Also, what good is talking to the nearby church about shadowing after the application is approved? Wouldn't these issues typically be addressed prior to approval?

Totally agree with everything you state. Just felt the class warfare issue wasn't warranted.

    Toronto Toronto | Belmont House Addition | 43.5m | 11s | Belmont House | Montgomery Sisam

Belmont has some beautiful historic townhomes, but not sure they are many multi-million dollar houses. I can say with absolute certainty that there are many more multi-millionaires living in Belmont House than across the street. That said, not sure why this has to be a class warfare slag...

    Toronto Toronto | 135 St Clair West | 161.3m | 49s | Fitzrovia | Hariri Pontarini

I have very little faith that the building will end up anything like what the current depiction is. Those are pretty large south facing balconies for a 50 storey rental. I think we all understand the economics of class B commercial buildings, but we can still appreciate the design/look of what...

    Toronto Toronto | 135 St Clair West | 161.3m | 49s | Fitzrovia | Hariri Pontarini

It definitely has architectural nostalgia, but like so many class B & C office buildings it has lost its economic justification. It would be terrible for it to just sit there and remain empty. 49 storeys is total overkill for that intersection, but overkill seems to be the new norm.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Well I typically ride in the same lane the cars are parked in. I find there's plenty of room. I also see the same of other cyclists. That said, I'm not zipping and am pretty alert, so keep an eye out for cars opening the driver side doors.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Just an antidote. Was picking up and driving my daughter to her day program last week on Ranleigh (close to Yonge & Lawrence) and was passed by a cyclist in a 30k zone. I was going about 30k myself, but was totally fine with it. The guy was in a suit (so not a tour de France guy) and just...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

My experience is most cyclist move close to the sidewalk. That's at least what I do when riding on Bayview or Mt Pleasant near Eglinton.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I understand the passion and wanting to stick up a middle finger to the removal of the bike lanes, but caution that if bikes start holding up traffic on major arterials by taking up a full lane, the next shoe to drop will be outlawing bikes on major arterials. I don't know what Mayor Chow is...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Agree, but I think we know she doesn't have a year's grace. I would ask for the province to foot the bill for alternative bike lanes on streets that would act as alternatives to the streets where the province is intent on removing the bike lanes. I know there are no good options, but figure...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Apologies GrimSweeper for calling your point silly. You make a valid point about overall congestion. I was focused purely on the 3 streets the province has selected for bike lane removal. As for whether or not there is an ROI or any net benefit, it would depend on the eye of the beholder...
