    Downtown

I understand. In general I like the character of older buildings and in particular I knew someone who owned this one years ago, so happy to see it being used again. I hope it is around for a while, but this is also a good location for something new, bigger and better some day.

    Old Strathcona / Whyte Avenue

I think this is an interesting article. I suppose its easy to just say the area is better or worse than before, but maybe that doesn't catch the nuance of change which this article goes into a bit more...

Or just a nearby physical location to go to, get a combo and pay for as you want. Many grandpa's these days are fairly active, maybe more so than some younger people and don't mind going out to actually get things, rather that sit at home all the time just waiting for everything to be delivered.

    Downtown

Yes and it is close to a fairly dense residential area, so I could see something other than the suburban drive and drop off model actually working here despite the limited parking nearby.

    Rossdale

So is that final design report referred to public or not? If not, I feel it would be a good idea in the interest of transparency and public input for it to be even if they don't intend to proceed immediately.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

Oh this must really irk some of those at the centre of the universe that we are building more houses than them, especially considering many of the people there think Edmonton is a much smaller city than it actually is. Younger people in the GTA who want to have a family are not going to wait...

    Alberta Politics

TBH it is a solution in search of a problem. Really, illegal immigrants aren't pouring across the Alberta/Montana border and probably the illegal drug traffic across the border is also a fairly tiny portion of the total. Probably mostly just coyotes (the real ones, the animals with fur)...

    General Food & Dining Thread

The trend that mostly seems to be continuing is a lot of the nice new places are local and unique and the coffee places closing are chains from out of town. An A&W there would be nice, open late night. A lot of people who live nearby are not big drivers, so I feel something not with a drive...

    Edmonton | Hat @ Old Strathcona | 66.14m | 20s | Cidex Group

Yes, people actually do want to live in this area, probably the biggest limitation is not too much has been built around here and a lot of the buildings are getting older. This is nice and new and will help extend the commercial/residential area from being a narrow strip of a block or so into...

    LRT Expansion Planning

Interesting. Not a critique of only us, but if the shoe fits. I feel Edmontonians could easily list several level crossings they want eliminated so this would be popular with vehicle users as well as transit users. It is something to consider seriously once the current west LRT line expansion...

    Downtown

If the owner can find a tenant to take enough space to cover the costs, perhaps interim can last quite a while. There doesn't seem to have been a great demand to build anything new here so far even with the building vacant.

    2025 Predictions

    - US has a new (ok recycled) President - Canada has a new PM and - Edmonton has a new Mayor

    Miscellaneous

It also has a very nice selection of local and other businesses, not just a bunch of the same national franchises and chains as elsewhere.
  14. D

    Federal Politics

I feel Carney has a lot of credibility with in business and economic circles, where the current Liberal government really struggles. Carney hasn't spent as much time outside of Canada as Ignatieff. Maybe Trudeau should have brought Carney in as Finance Minister when Morneau left, but as they...

    Stollery Children's Hospital

Yes, I see Calgary mentioned a couple of times. Also Fort Saskatchewan and Grande Prairie got newer facilities in the recent past, both also growing communities I believe.
  16. D

    Miscellaneous

I would say Manchester Square was quite an improvement of the previous furniture outlet store there and certainly better than having to drive to a suburban place to shop, but yes the big parking lot in front is not great. I suspect where it is located and the "quiet" neighbourhood nearby is...

    Federal Politics

Being in opposition can be frustrating, particularly to those used to being a position where they call the shots, like Carney. Poilievre was young at the time, so had time on his side, Carney not as much now. Of course compared to the current and incoming US Presidents, they are both...

    Currents of Windermere

Yes, I do feel some of the newer shopping areas are being developed with more density nearby in mind and there are also some interesting plans for residential around some older malls, such as Millwoods and Boonie Doon.
  19. D

    Downtown

I believe O'Byrnes will be nice, but isn't it essentially just replacing something somewhat similar that was there for a long time? So, I don't think the city investment has as of yet resulted in any new retail space here.

    Stollery Children's Hospital

Perhaps to some degree, but apparently not in Red Deer or other places in Alberta that have had new hospitals built more recently.
