    Landsdowne Centre - 5120 - 122 Street - Redevelopment - proposed

Why oh why is there such a massive parking lot in front?! This development could do wonders for the area, but I think it misses the mark with that sea of parking. Such a shame stuff like this is still proposed in 2023.

I think they’re referring to the steel piles around the edge of the site holding back the soil outside the excavation area. As far as I know, they stay in the ground forever? I’ve never seen them being removed.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Here are some photos of Stony Plain Rd from about a week ago. It looks like most of the drainage infrastructure is in place so tracks and road surfacing may not be far away.

    Downtown

I was there last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. It gave me a renewed sense of pride in downtown Edmonton, something I haven’t felt for a while now. Let’s hope we can keep the ball rolling and host more and more events/festivals downtown.

They could always do something like this: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1C9wfOjxT6HXybmkqxjYVfX_qESfTLhQ&usp=sharing If they're spending billions of dollars on a high speed line, building a couple of tunnels and a viaduct would not break the bank.

    Edmonton | 105 Avenue (Columbia Avenue) Streetscape | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

It’s currently being used as a laydown site for the 105 Ave streetscape project. Once that’s complete, hopefully they start developing it.

Nah, I like that the white section has white frames, white brick, and white railings, whereas the black part of the building is all black. To me, it looks classy. Black window frames are a little too common these days.

    Capital Line LRT

Not to be a downer, but arch bridges are not unique to Edmonton, they are popular around the world as they are the best option for lots of projects. In fact, there are bridges with a nearly identical design to the Walterdale Bridge in Serbia, Hungary, and Japan (and probably other places too)...

    Capital Line LRT

No, they have deemed the elevated station too costly. But the station is being built north of Ellerslie Road, so the grade separation problem can be easily taken care of when they extend the line further south.

For a bridge that tall and long, I would imagine a suspension or cable-stay bridge would be preferable.

    The Parks | 146.91m | 45s | 35s | 13s | Pangman | Hariri Pontarini

The trees on Capital Boulevard are growing nicely and appear healthy. I seem to remember them installing soil cells, yes. However, 108 street doesn’t border or pass through the park site, only 106 and 107 Streets, both of which have very unhealthy trees.

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Sounds like the first of the girders will be installed tomorrow night.

The Mercury Block II | Hodgson Schilf Evans

There’s a bus route that uses that road, and it’s still a connection to the inner parts of the Oliver neighbourhood.

Yeah this seems like a guerrilla sign somebody put up. I highly doubt Regency did this 😂

    Arc Smart Fare System

It’s on the concourse level near where the ticket validators and ticket vending machines are. It’s not on the train or platform level.

The final lift of pavement and the bike lane curbs went in this past week between 109 and 112 Streets. Here are some photos taken today. 110 Street looking west 112 Street looking west towards the plaza currently under construction. 112 Street looking east

    Edmonton Riverhawks Baseball 2021 onward

Transit access is not that bad. You can walk down the hill from downtown relatively easily, and you don’t need to walk back up. The number 9 stops right outside the ballpark on Rossdale Road bringing you back up the hill to downtown for onward connections.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

The problem with the LRT line as an airport connection is not just about the top speed of 80km/h. It's also that the line is only designed for local all-stop service patterns. Having a train stop at every station between downtown and the airport would take more than an hour. And if you wanted to...

EllisDon to Lead Prairie Link High-Speed Rail Partners - Edm-RD-Cal

LRT to the airport is a good idea in the long-term, but makes little sense right now. Light rail is generally more expensive per km to build. A heavy rail line can share infrastructure with CPKC which would save money. Also, having a third line to the city’s south between the Capital and Valley...
