    Calgary & Alberta Economy

I attended U of A and then worked for an international fraternity. As such I had the fortune of visiting many campuses and experiencing campus life across NA. I might suggest that you didn't get the full U of A experience. I also think you're selling SFU a bit short. They don't compare to some...

It is weird. When I was young I recall videos about them being even more massive, and seeing them I thought they were eroding but could hardly imagine it being as dramatic as they claimed it would be. Seeing them now 30 years later I am in shock that it is worse even than they claimed... the ice...

I think the ultimate security of our water supply is in question in the event of climate changing as the worst models predict.

I am not sure about our entire lifetime, but I think that we will see new trends in working emerge post pandemic. The future of office space needs is very much in flux from where it was even 2 years ago. The situation was already pretty dire in the office real estate market in Calgary and this...

We're not going to see a 300 for until the 2030s imo. But who knows what the next decade holds.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Your point is valid, but I don't think that 4 years of NDP governance was enough to change the prevailing view that Alberta is a perennially conservative province that saw itself to an economic future beyond Oil and Gas.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Part of the problem is almost certainly political. Anecdotally I know many young people who have decided to leave the province entirely because they either: a) don't believe in an economic future for Oil, or b) are embarrassed by our provincial predilection towards socially conservative policies...

The towers would be Good if not for the louvre portion on the top. They would be great if they had way more glass and way less spandrel. The podium needs to be completely reworked to be considered good.

It was Bernie at the inauguration. Poor fella was cold. Now he's a meme, again.

Colour me interested in an apartment in the Bow. Lol.

Whyte is barely the most active street in Edmonton anymore. Jasper (BTW I think you are confusing 104 ave with Jasper... Jasper doesn't really have any strip malls that I can think of along it, whereas 104th ave is precisely as you describe), 104th street, 124th street have all largely surpassed...

Incidentally, it was the dual nature of Edmonton that allowed Alexander Rutherford to underhandedly "steal" the university from Calgary. The stipulation from the federal government was that the Capital and the provincial university had to be in separate cities, with the idea that one would go to...

    Statscan numbers

There was also the dual nature of the original settlements of Strathcona and Edmonton, which created two defacto "town centres" from the get go. The surrounding area was littered with more settlements that were incorporated into Edmonton proper as well, and still has some large sattelites that...

Oh I know it was all in good fun, I just felt the need to remind people that there are SOME good things about Edmonton! CB does a great job at highlighting some of the little things. The University is a jewel of the city that is again threatened by provincial policies and tightened budgets. It...

    Calgary Regional Rail Transit

Imagine, for example, that the 1.2 billion the government spent on Keystone XL was instead invested in creating HSR between Calgary and Edmonton. That's almost half what was needed for a full greenfield project iirc. That would have created 1000s of jobs over the next decade for AB and we would...

The demand was enough for multiple daily flights from Ed-Saskatoon on westjet. I could see that being picked up entirely by a good rail service. and while I am certainly excited to know more about this private proposal, I am tired of being mired in the idea that it absolutely needs an economic...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

This exact thing happened to me last year. I was in Montreal with some colleagues for business- colleagues had never been to Montreal before, and I was talking up the city life down by the old port. We were staying out by the Airport, but I twisted some arms and got some to pile in a cab with me...

Is anyone watching this impromptu Kenney address? It is ostensibly about vaccinations but so far he's spent the first 10 minutes talking Keystone. I can't figure out who his audience is here... if this is his best platform for presenting these ideas to American counterparts or federal...

With the unfortunate decline occurring in the aviation industry, I wonder if now is the time to reinvigorate the idea of seriously investing in HSR between major prairie cities. Edmonton-Calgary is a no brainer imo, but what about Saskatoon?
