    Rob Ford's Toronto

For a while, I thought he was a parody account or something, but it seems that he is indeed real. I am also a block away from the street he was reported living on and will keep my eyes peeled...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

I noticed that there is a new Leslieville Cheese Market setting up shop in the plaza on Donlands just south of O'Connor. Is this the beginning of the gentrification of the area?

Post: How do you pronounce 'Toronto'

I grew up and still am here and pronounce it as Tor-awn-ah.

    Blockbuster Video

What I've been told is that they are not in the same danger as the US arm and that they have made concessions to ensure that the American company does not levy Canada as an asset to pay down debt like what happened to Linens and Things and The Source by Circuit City. They will likely set...

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Shoeless Joe's is moving into Leaside, at the corner of Laird and Eglinton. They are to occupuy the same space that once held Eglinton Fish and Chips and Domino's. It will be interesting to see how well the resto does in that location. I personally think that Shoeless Joe's only notable...

    lost Toronto in colour--late 40's-early 70's

Can anyone elaborate on why it was withdrawn from service and development so soon? The Turbo was a good looking rig. The new GO MPXpress locos are bringing modern back in to what rail transport should look like today.

$33 for 250/ml? For that cost, I'd rather go to Niagara to get my own Greaves.

The Birth of a New City

Seeing the image of the signed beam (amazing, btw) reminds me of the pod signatures that were collected for the CN Tower in 1976. Am I crazy, or do they really exist?

    this is your city

Hi - I lurk here mostly and have to say that I truly enjoy the content and debate on this site. I have been dabbling in TO photography for the better part of a decade, using mostly cheap (and toy) cameras but have finally invested in a SLR and something other than the kit lens that comes with...

Petite Thuet - 1 King West Finally, the ever vacant space at 1 King West has been filled by Marc Thuet's cafe concept, Petite Thuet. Lots of soup, salad and sandwich options available for lunch and brunch in a tall, bright and colourful space. It's not a spacious room, but for those who do...

    The War on Woodbine

Unbelievable. I remember this area well as it used to be, when as a kid my parents used to take us out on Sunday drives in their old beater of a Satellite. I'm pretty sure that there used to be a butcher that used the red shed.

    Skating and Outdoor Rinks

This is likely too late, but the ice and rentals at Harbourfront is miles better than what's available at Nathan Phillips Square.

    Malls get the 'destination' makeover

My experience at Fairview prior to its reno had me thinking that it was a dead mall and that it'd be demolished for a Smart Centre. Glad to see that they've brought it back to life.

    Scarborough RT: The First Crew

My father has been a TTC operator since the early '70s and his badge number is in the mid 1000's. He was one of the first fifteen to be trained on the Scarborough RT and has a numbered key on his chain. http://img.anal0g.org/albums/album67/brian1_005.jpg Enjoy!

    miWay Transit

I cannot speak on behalf of route 70's ridership, but I can tell you that the 82 is packed on most if not all of its morning northbound trips. Likewise on the way back into the city, the route is standing room only by the time it arrives at the RBC building on Financial before hitting the highway.

    miWay Transit

Another 82 rider chiming in against any thought of discontinuing service from Islington to Meadowvale. Riders are plenty on this route and the thought of compounding them on to others makes the thought of quitting my job and drawing EI sound like a dream in comparison. On a semi-related note...

    The nauseating smell of Lush

It took me a while to figure out that the smell outside of Hollister in the Eaton Centre was actually intentional, as their sibling store Abercrombie and Fitch farther south in the mall didn't reek to me at all. Reading up on it taught me that it's a very important part of their marketing and...

Cost of commuting to and from the 416

This thread interests me as I live in the east end of Toronto and work in Mississauga, Meadowvale to be precise. My present route has me taking the subway to Islington and then I transfer to Mississauga Transit's 82N bus, which is an express route that takes a hellride up the 427, across the...

    Mystery Building

You're right, it is a TD data centre but the posts about it being some sort of secret organization building ring true. While working in the area, I swear I never saw anyone going in or out of the structure.
