    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

SW corner, Adelaide and Church: https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/miscellany-toronto-photographs-then-and-now.6947/page-262#post-437366 Look, a portion remains...

Globe and Mail, tear down this paywall!

We were in Islington, central London (border of Zone 1/2). Telecom was 1/3 the cost vs. Canada. That's a kind thing to say - thank you. As parents, we try.

Globe and Mail, tear down this paywall!

We were in the UK at the time - GBP9 /mo = C$15/mo. We're now back in Canada and have both an electronic Globe subscription, as well as a paper Saturday subscription. The latter is essentially just a charitable donation, and we want our kids to see us reading "real" papers once in a while.

Condos not regularly occupied -- can we tell from bare balconies?

Genuine query - why the obsession with empty condos? Vacancies are super low and rental rates are sky high. It's not like owners are having a tough time finding tenants.

    Regent Park

Most of Gerrard has a commercial tilt to it. The stretch through Cabbagetown/Regent Park could be vibrant, given all of the towers going up (full of potential customers) and the 4 transit stops between River and Parliament. Bring it on, I say.

    Regent Park

    1) Rents are going up, so maybe 2) Bruv, can you have a chav? Or be a chav?

    Regent Park

I wonder if we'll even consider those buildings to be Regent Park, once RP proper is built out.

    Regent Park

+1, Mike. This happened on the east side of River at Oak - not the part that's being redeveloped but the 60s apartment towers between River and the Don Valley.

    Car2Go Illegal Parking - Solutions?

Their business model was providing cars...and gas, insurance, and maintenance, and depreciation, and a system to find cars, and billing. Car2Go wasn't a parking space arbitrage.

    Car2Go Illegal Parking - Solutions?

The company didn't park their cars on the street - its users (our neighbours) did. Now they'll buy cars and park on the street all the time, instead of just some of the time. More cars in the neighbourhood. Fewer choices for those who would like to be carless 99% of the time. This is a loss...

    Cabbagetown

No. Only a minority some will (or do, or would have...). Not all cars would arrive at once, and the site has 3 temp parking spots.

    Cabbagetown

Actually, for this site I would love a low-rise condo - maybe 4-5 stories with setbacks. I bet you could add 40 or so units on that space. It would add vibrancy...and now I'm dreaming about Park Snacks getting a liquor license, or a craft brewery! Mmmm!

It would be an understatement to say that the proposed Daycare is generating some friction...it goes to Committee today: https://cabbagetowner.com/application-made-for-day-nursery-on-sackville-street/...

The Parliament Street location is still there - we last ordered about a month ago: http://www.sukhothaifood.ca/parliament/ There is also a new location in the West Don Lands.

Brick and cobblestone streets in Toronto

Carlton Street seems to have more red brick than I realized - there's a large pothole on the north side near Carlton/Metcalfe, and you can clearly see the red brick paving underneath the crumbling asphalt.

    Terrible attempts at staging properties.

Totally agree. Some people see an empty room and can not possibly visualize where the furniture would go! I married someone like this.

East of the Don = South of the Thames?

Spot on. South London feels "removed", not necessarily sketchy though...Dulwich is lovely, and even Peckham and Brixton have gentrified.

East of the Don = South of the Thames?

Some thoughts: - South London is newer, more car friendly, with many fewer tube stops per capita. Despite a large population it's thought of less often than N, W, or E London. In these senses, east of the Don (mostly Scarborough) is a lot like south of the river. - The area immediately east of...

Are the new short-term rental rules going to affect the condo prices?

That's an odd one. Old church? Supersized arts and crafts house? Combined semis? Purpose built apartment?
