https://www.blogto.com/sports_play/2024/06/zack-hample-rogers-centre-toronto/ Some valid points but I am also realistic about it. Its corporately owned, their goal is to make money. They don't have to cater to the masses, just the ones they know will pay for it.

100% agree! I also wonder if in the long term the design will come back in Vogue. Obviously its not beautiful like the old style of Camden and the like and certainly not as is, but people seem to be moving on from that 90's trend now with newer stadiums. Plus with some updates to the exterior...

I know it still has a lot of work to do on it(just clean the exterior please!), but can't deny that building has a lot of life left in it if its taken care of.

Well looks like somethings being done about the fountain at least.

Are we really expecting better at this point? The amount of neglect on the basics has been quite widespread and obvious...

Thank you for sharing the pic of the OSC above. I know thats a topic for a different thread but it just goes to show how foolish these politicians saying tear it down and replace with housing are.

They said that at the start of the renovations. This was always an interim plan. I agree with him though, public money was not on the table, but lets be clear. Its because they would have received a massive no if they asked and they already knew it.

I am glad its done and we got 75% of what needed to happen. I really look forward to going to games this year. I would like to see in the next five years some warmth brought to the place. Its very blue and grey and some brown/wood accents such as repanelling the Hotel walls would really change...

I always forget how blech that original turf looked.

It's not terrible but yes for a long time it left a lot to be desired. The Government led its design and had to pursue multipurpose at the time. That said, the renovations look very impressive and with the renos coming for the 100 the biggest issue will be addressed(slope and sightline)...

I agree with both of you, they need to do more to showcase the history. Monuments around the property(no Ted Rogers statue), but Joe Carter jumping on the bag, Bautista bat flip, something for Beeston. They could do the ramps over with murals with different themes. This is our baseball home...

"Concrete is just an ugly material. Meanwhile Yankee Stadium was built with limestone" 100%, and it stains super easy. But doesn't mean it can't look clean. I also wonder with the passing of time if it even makes sense to do cladding to change it because maybe one day concrete will be in vogue...

    Toronto Toronto | Concord Canada House | 231.97m | 74s | Concord Adex | Arcadis

That area has really grown up. I remember when I was in high school and the earliest buildings were going up, the worry of that area becoming a new St. James Town. But walking down there now, it's not perfect but it's a damn good area I think. Some more affordable grocery options and a bit more...

Serious question. They are spending all this money on the inside, is there anyway to clean the concrete on the exterior? Guaranteed Rate Field is almost as old as SkyDome but they have done things to freshen it up on the outside. Even just pressure washing I am just wondering.

    Dead/Decaying Malls of Greater Toronto

Read the article and thought it was mostly well done. Though some fact checking needed to be done(like Malvern never had a Target). Still sad regardless, a lot of these malls can still be made something really great.

    Dead/Decaying Malls of Greater Toronto

Yea I took a walk around there when I used to work in the area. I loved Zellers but that is a truly depressing place to go too!

How familiar are Toronto urbanists with the GTA's suburbs?

I have been lucky when I look back at it. I have lived in Scarborough as a child, then Ajax for my teen years and early 20's, Downtown(well Downtown adjacent at King and Dufferin) and now back to Scarborough though in a different part. I have worked in Markham, Ajax, North York and Etobicoke...

    Dead/Decaying Malls of Greater Toronto

Yea, I know dead thread but wanted too add to the list. Despite all my great childhood memories there, Malvern Town Centre looks to be on the dying list. Its been happening for a while. It's still clean inside and decently maintained but it's definitely showing its age and no longer attracting...

So why is North York so Expensive? And Scarborough so cheap?

And that is my point. Recently the conversation has been to single out the foreign investor as the sole culprit and hold up a foreign buyer tax as the sole solution. We aren't Vancouver, though as I said above, maybe in Richmond Hill or parts of Markham you could make the case but the vast...

So why is North York so Expensive? And Scarborough so cheap?

I don't get why people are holding to this foreign buyer idea! Yes more have decided to come here but no, they are not the sole reason for this insane increase! We are living in a time with quite a few things contributing to this. Home owners are not selling. I just checked MLS and right now...
