I've been wondering just why Jesse Ketchum schoolyard gets such preferential treatment, compared to other schoolyards. I've seen plenty of schoolyards surrounded by buildings that shadow them much more than any of the proposed buildings around Yonge/Bloor would -- not as tall perhaps, but right...

"Writing" is a dubious concept as well.

What about shadowing? We all know that the City will cut it back if there is any hint of shadow on Jesse Ketchum Park. This site is almost due south of the park, so maximum heights must be lower than at other sites along Bloor that got cut back for that reason in the past.

Different standards for different markets. It all depeds on what a particular market will tolerate, if the buyers expect and demand higher quality they will get it, if they don't demand it, they don't get it. Guess which group most Toronto buyers fall into.

If they number all the floors with the ACTUAL numbers, floors 4, 14, 24, and so on will have fewer Chinese owners, but the great majority of floor numbers will not contain a 4. Should not be an issue, unless they are expecting almost all the units in the building to be bought by Chinese.

Am I the only one who sees some resemblance to the Entertainment District, except with a 210m "tabletop" rather than a 160m "tabletop"?

Isn't it now a City requirement to have at least 60% spandrel on all new residential towers? Something like that, maybe 40%. I think you can thank the City for all the spandrel that you will be seeing in the future. I understand the intent is to increase the energy efficiency of new...

Am I the only person who actually uses "amongst" in verbal conversation?

Maybe not CONSTANTLY, but in summer I definitely prefer to walk on the shadowed side of the street, to avoid the blazing sun.

I am still unhappy that the DRP shot down the Distillery District Rack House D design -- which had won an award from Architecture Magazine -- in 2012:

    100 Metre List

I am not sure where to post this, but I think it fits best in this forum. I have compiled a spreadsheet of all buildings at least 300 feet tall (I used feet because it has higher height resolution than using metres) in the Greater Toronto Area (Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, and...

    100 Metre List

It's been 9 months, and the 100+ metre list STILL has the filter applied, you can only see the buildings on Bremner Blvd. Can somebody with authorization PLEASE remove the filter? The list is useless right now! NOTE: Just figured out you can download the sheet and then in DATA, remove the...

I have said before that the users of Jesse Ketchum must be reverse vampires, because they apparently burst into flames if they are exposed to a shadow. I personally prefer staying in shadow during the summers, direct sunlight is often too hot for me (especially with the expected effects of...

I second what everyone is saying. Pantages was a huge thing at the time, whereas it would no doubt be barely noticed today. I guess it's to be expected, given the massive (and still rising) ongoing level of construction in Toronto now. I know that in recent years there are far too many active...

    Toronto Toronto | CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

This is from a spreadsheet I made, showing construction of all 300-foot or taller high-rises (not including the CN Tower). For each building I subtracted 300 from the height in feet. So a 328 foot building gets 28 points, and a 585 foot building gets 285 points. The blue line shows the sum of...

A new design was just submitted to the City. No official heights yet, but in the new renders it appears to be about the same height as Aura (so maybe 270m). Counting floors on the render yields 72 floors.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Park | 303.26m | 58s | Oxford Properties | Pelli Clarke Pelli

Comparing the tallest Union Park tower with the taller 400 Front West tower (which is right next to Union Park and hence should have minimal perspective distortion), I make the tallest Union Park tower to be 1.525 times the height of the taller 400 Front West tower (199m), which would make it...
