Given Pusateri's going bankrupt today, seems like this store has a very high chance of never opening. Who knows, maybe the restructuring finds the best path forward is to open a luxury grocery store in a middle class neighbourhood, but I doubt it. Also strangely, as part of today's news, I've...

Like while I think there can be other uses for the space there, Toronto sucks at nightlife. If Rebel goes, there's no remaining large nightlife spaces left in Toronto (also worth noting Rebel is used for a lot of concerts). As an example of how bad our nightlife is, we have less gay clubs than...

Yeah I mentioned it a few months ago in this thread, but it's basically the standard sidewalk design that's in downtown Vancouver, which is very cool to have in Toronto! Hopefully it can be maintained well and maybe more projects/the city will realise this is a lot nicer than just grey poured...

So far no, it's unfortunate. They have men's stuff for sale online, but you'd never know it based on the stores.

George Hislop Park, Norman Jewison Park and Alexander Street Parkette

Alexander St Parkette has been moving pretty quickly now work has stated, a number of concrete paths have been poured. I'll have to get a picture next time I walk by.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Looks like it's mostly an underground unit (peep the stairs heading down through the glass doors), which IMO is a great fit for Value Village since they don't really do window displays anyway.

    Hudson's Bay Company

Welcome to the joys of Private Equity. They don't care about any of these businesses succeeding, they just will wring every penny out of them and leave them for dead. These are not people with good intentions. Sadly, Neiman Marcus is just the next casualty of the PE firm that has effectively...

When I last visited Downtown Vancouver, I noticed they use material like this for most sidewalks and it does look way better. The only issue I found was it was really annoying to pull a suitcase over due to how bumpy it is, but unless you're doing that all the time, it's fine.

The TYSSE opened in mid-December 2017, so who knows. Obviously it didn't have a surface section, so not quite the same thing, but it's not unprecedented for a December opening to happen. I think if they can open it in December, they will, just to say they opened in 2024.

    Toronto Toronto | Warden Station Redevelopment | 13.11m | 2s | TTC | SAI

In a lot of ways the Agency model at the city creates these disconnects. TTC, Hydro, CreateTO, TPL, Toronto Zoo, etc are all Agencies outside of the regular civil service, and there is no structure to make everything work together. Which is why Hydro are always tearing up recently built...

Toronto Hydro not ruin every new pedestrian space challenge: IMPOSSIBLE. Honestly, how does this constantly happen?

Honestly, that would be a pretty great use for the site, and one of the better options in terms of having any chance of restoring the existing building.

I guess the one positive here is we avoided the situation where the OL's Flemingdon Park Station is closer to the Science Centre than Science Centre Station is.

    Hudson's Bay Company

HBC steadily dying is sad but I'm not surprised. My local The Bay store growing up was in Kingston, which based on what my parents have told me, is still almost exactly the same store it was in the mid 1980s. I think they painted the doors a decade ago and that's the biggest change the store has...

Regarding the TorStar building: Can't say I'm surprised. It's an older office building, plus it's outside the financial district, and far from the subway. It's not exactly an ideal office location with the current lack of demand. Consider that 11 Bay, just a block away is effectively cancelled...

    Ontario Science Centre

Not that it means much given how expropriation-happy this government is, but it is worth noting the land the Science Centre is on belongs to the City and the TRCA. The province only leases it, with the lease saying it's to be used for a Science Centre. So either any redevelopment requires either...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Yeah exactly, I totally agree. The West part is critical for both of those reasons. Without explaining where the trains are going to be stored if you don't build the West extension (either first, at the same time, or at all), seems like a pretty big omission (and also an important thing for...
  18. T

    Ontario Science Centre

True, but it's a government building, if part of the roof did suddenly collapse, someone was injured/killed, and it was found they knew about the condition of the roof and had kept the building open, it would be a massive scandal. Simplest reason why it was immediately closed, avoiding any...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

The question about extending East vs West first is totally pointless until MX says where the train yard is going to go. Are they just going to run trains all the way around Line 1 from an expanded Wilson? Or from Davisville? Is there a new Eastern MSF? If so, where? The Western leg is easy, you...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Exhibition Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

The trains themselves. They need to replace the steps at the doors with ones that can adjust to both heights (with level boarding the step fills the gap between the train and the platform). To my knowledge, they haven't done this upgrade to enough (or maybe even any yet) of the bilevel cars. So...
