Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

All the new bike infrastructure this year is great! It was very therapeutic to add all the new under construction or completed active pathways. Feel free to use this map if helpful: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1uxEoELgdShpFfMabzsvsCBGR6GbBcgeW&usp=sharing

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Does anyone recall what the original ridership forecast was for Valley Line SE? And how that compares to these new stats?

    Toll Roads / Mileage Tax

Municipalities also don't have the authority to create toll roads right now in Alberta. The Province would need to allow for that authority by updating legislation, which seems like something that won't happen anytime soon.

    Edmonton | Manulife Place Renovations | 145.99m | 36s | AIMCo | MdeAS

Anyone know if the high level closure includes the pedestrian and bike paths? Cause that would suuuuccckkkk

    Edmonton | The Shift | 113.08m | 38s | Edgar | MCM Partnership

It’s also probably a better outcome to not have warehouse park surrounded completely by large towers. Some variability in heights will be good.

The design book shows this design. It looks like it will be protected but jut out around the curb extension.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

Its great to see this new flagship store in the mall :)

    Arc Smart Fare System

I wish ETS were more loud about these improvements. They are really great. They should spread the word about them!

    Warehouse District Park

I think there are some winter city and CPTED considerations. Coniferous trees increase shade/decrease sun access, which can be nice in the summer, but can make the area feel colder in the winter. Although I agree a few more coniferous trees would have been nice.

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

Looks like they are adding continuous crossings on the next phase of imagine Jasper. Page was recently updated: "Utility relocation will begin later this year and road construction will begin in 2025. Construction is anticipated to take 3 years to complete."

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

That’s just how these 3 previously funded for design projects will be implemented. This is not ALL of what is being done this year.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Id image if the capital line ever gets those stops by 40th ave (between southgate and century park), and a stop between south campus and southgate, that the travel times would be even more similar. I appreciate that there are more frequent stops on the valley line that are not just in downtown.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I remember them mentioning they wanted to minimize impacts centrally so that the road isn’t closed for the whole span of construction. Lessons learned from Valley line SE

    Edmonton | Grandin 4 | 23m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | J+S Architect

I believe this was appealed to the SDAB due to the number of variances, so they are coming back with a rezoning again

This is what the digital display looks like in the LRVs! We did it! Full digital info!

    Suburban Development and Sprawl

I think a lot of people agree sprawl should stop but they don't want anything in their own community to change, which creates a bit of a problem lol

    Miscellaneous

That development would be really exciting if it was just rotated 90 degrees. (With parking on the side towards superstore)

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I think that's the City's plan though. The City Plan identifies a regional train along gateway that connects to the airport, not the capital line. If they do that, even MORE the case to build the central line, as the regional line would likely have an initial stop on/near Whyte.
