    Multiplexes

Overheard two people in Timmie’s talking about moving forward on a couple rental multiplex sites in the city, planning to apply for cmhc funding. It’s cool seeing policy changes you read about intersect in real life and have a real impact in the world.

Bank Street Renewal (Riverside Drive to Ledbury Avenue)

Will the street eventually be renewed all the way into downtown? Any updates on the Sparks street revitalization?

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Queen-Spadina Station | ?m | 1s | Metrolinx | HDR

We are paying for what is by some accounts the second most expensive subway in the history of humankind and getting bare-bone stations that look like the Ottawa LRT. Crazy. Don’t even get me started with east harbour. Sydney metro’s city and southwest or Grand Paris Express should be the bar...

    Toronto Toronto | West Don Lands: Block 13 | 139.31m | 43s | Dream | Henriquez Partners

When I first saw the redesign I thought the black cladding was aluminum panel. Thank god they didn’t stoop that low (yet) Just changing the precast brick panels to red would make this iteration so much better. Why the black?

    Zoning Reform Ideas

We need laneway apartments. Laneway single-stair multiplexes would be great for Toronto. This would allow us to reconcile with any heritage concerns that currently surround building new housing within older neighbourhoods. we can keep older victorians intact while adding 4-6 storey laneway...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

I think that it would be perfectly reasonable to allow 6-8 storeys on every residential street in neighbourhoods adjacent to downtown. Also the Annex, Chinatown, and Baldwin Village.

Hate that this is replacing what is currently on site. But I like this better than the previous iteration.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Maybe this will finally force the city of Toronto to realize that the world will not burn down through the legalization of escooters

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Exhibition Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

I would imagine it is because the bid for Go Expansion was still out and it was unclear what rolling stock would eventually be used. Although I don't understand why Exhibition and all of the post-2022 stations are being built to current platform height spec even when the winning bid, OnExpress...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Exhibition Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Do these renderings imply metrolinx expects level boarding to be implemented by the time this station opens?

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I'm really conflicted between the STC and Morningside options. I think there is way more future potential growth that can be accommodated with the extension all the way to Morningside, but STC is likely to become the largest single node in the east end of the city (maybe that will be partly...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

The unnecessary secrecy courtesy of Metrolinx that forces us to examine blurry screenshots to get a sense of what is being built here is crazy

    Calgary | University District | ?m | ?s | University of Calgary Properties Group

On 32 Ave - Is the city planning any long-term redesign here? It should really be tree-lined with wide sidewalks on both sides

Shoutout to the GC and all the subs on this one - they seem to be absolutely crushing it

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Worth noting that the federal conservatives adopted a motion at their last party convention - 2023 - to support the development of high speed rail in Canada. This is entirely a symbolic gesture but it is one that acts as a pretty good barometer for what kind of policy is within acceptance among...

    Toronto Toronto | 158 Sterling (Block 5B+C) | 105.44m | 31s | Marlin Spring | Giannone Petricone

I feel like junction triangle could have been a really good nightlife/entertainment area because of the lack of residential land use. The city needs more nightlife space that isn’t going to be hampered by complaints from nearby residents Nice looking proposal though

    Niagara Falls Toronto | 6546 Fallsview Boulevard | 210.05m | 58s | Hennepin | a—A

I can tell exactly what happened here. The developer clearly wanted Thom Mayne but could only afford Clewes. The result is as expected.

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Holy shite those stations are huge. No wonder there is talk of cost overruns. Its a bloody low floor tram system lol. If the city wants to cosplay having a metro system maybe they should just - hear me out on this one - build a heavy rail metro.

    Zoning Reform Ideas

This one caught my eye: "creating areas of transition between avenues and neighbourhoods to enable more housing" This is exactly what I was hoping to see from the city. Density should not be confined to only busy and noisy arterials!
