I feel ok about this plan. But an elevated low floor tram through a North American downtown core is going to be one of the funniest things to happen in transit infrastructure history. This thing is going to attract transit nerds from all over the world purely because of how bizarre it is.

Half of these stations don’t even have platform canopies, none of them have escalators, and they will be finished with bare concrete interiors and visible conduit. Insane. We need a national inquiry into infrastructure waste and corruption in this country asap

Toronto’s next transit megaproject should be to finally fix the ceilings in all stations. The state of some stations is beyond embarrassing. NYC used to be the poster child for poor SOGR but they have largely renovated the worst decaying stations. Toronto is definitely worse now.

What is the most ambitious/flashy proposal in the city that has a good chance of actually being built?

If I am reading the amendment right - the province is no longer mentioning University bike lanes but now Avenue Rd instead? Or have they simply added the Avenue bike lanes to be removed as well? Perhaps the permanent infrastructure and contracts being signed on University scared them off?

Crazy that our multiplex bylaw caps out right below the CMHC threshold. Why don’t we just update the bylaw to 5+ units city wide to align with CMHC incentives? The hard part of introducing the bylaw is arguably done. Updating the bylaw for more units should encounter much less public resistance.
