    Municipal Politics

I'm not sure I agree with this. Smith, I believe, favors Cartmell. We have ample evidence in support of this theory: 1) Smith and Cartmell met privately (before Smith even met Sohi!); 2) Smith appointed Cartmell (and Hamilton) to a provincial task force without consulting the mayor or city...

Cartmell has stated that the other candidates under his party banner will not be his "minions" but he will their "captain". I'm not particularly optimistic that this distinction will prove meaningful.

I've never lived in a Leston building, either, but professionally I have had some exposure to how they work, and, from what I can tell, they're one of the more reasonable (from a fairness perspective) larger-scale landlords in the city.

I'm surprised International Clothiers still exists. Talk about a blast from the past!

The early voting period is December 10-14. That should help a bit, but if anyone was done their classes or exams by then and planned to travel, it will create some barriers.

One thing I am certain of: Tim Cartmell is Danielle Smith's preferred choice.

Lethbridge-West by-election (finally) called... for December 18th. The cynic in me thinks that Danielle timed this one to try to hope for low turnout from UofL faculty and students. https://www.elections.ab.ca/writ-has-been-issued-for-the-lethbridge-west-by-election/

^^Took me a second to clue in, but the obvious implication is that the UCP is stacking the commission so they can handpick the next police chief. Yuck.

Edmonton-Glenora in its current form is probably one of the safest NDP constituencies in the province. Danielle Smith cannot win it, even if she does something nice with the old RAM.

    General Food & Dining Thread

I went to dinner at Bistro Praha on the weekend and it was packed to the gills all night, despite the streets looking mostly deserted. If you have a quality or novel product, people will show up!

    Downtown

I mean, maybe. But I will say this: I've worked downtown for the better part of 20 years, in public and private sector jobs. During that time, only a tiny fraction of my coworkers lived downtown. In fact, in my current office, I don't have a single coworker who lives downtown. In my observation...

This does not sound promising at all. It seems like Beljan is making this public as a last-ditch effort to force an uncooperative government's hand by encouraging public backlash. The problem is, I don't think the UCP cares.

    Arc Smart Fare System

Tapping off is too much of a hassle for me when I'm exiting a crowded bus in the morning. I see no upside. I've never been over (or under) charged fare because of it, either.

    Downtown

At least the 124 Remedy is still open until 10, but I generally agree.

    Downtown

^And open until 10pm every day! Not a ton of late evening coffee options downtown these days, so that's nice to see. (I can't believe Remedy closes at 6:30pm!!)
