    407 Transitway

For one, I'd have to assume that stops would be minimum 2-3km apart, preferably more. For example, between VMC and RHC, I could really only see a stop at the future Concord station and maybe Bathurst. There will never be enough demand for LRT on the VIVA orange, especially if we build this anyway.

    407 Transitway

This should be a GO line, not a TTC line considering the interregional importance it would have. I agree that OL capacity isn't really needed north of Sheppard, and we could get away with shorter trains. Basically GO ALRT 2.0 at this point

    Transit Fantasy Maps

The problem with once you get past 1.5-2km spacing on subways is you sort of turn it into the transit equivalent of a stroad. Is it an inter-regional connector? Is it meant to take you to the grocery store? I'd like to think of the future GO RER network as the 400- series network of transit in...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I'd be careful saying that, Yonge/Centre is slightly more narrow with the historic buildings around. The large dip in Yonge may also present some issues, originally I believe they wanted to double deck bridge it, I'm not sure what the maximum grade is for elevated rail but there might be some...

    Gondolas as Urban Transit

Gondolas are very slow and low capacity. Better to build a BRT in that corridor, building upon the already very successful York University Busway. Gondolas are best kept for short connecting hops over areas challenging to navigate with a vehicle or as a pedestrian, in no way a citywide system...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

You're thinking south of Sheppard. I'll try to get pics next time I'm in the area. It looks like they are pouring some sort of curb but only in a few areas.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

With Peel region now set to dissolve, this is probably the end of the Peel regional road network as well. This could go in two directions, one being the Toronto way, with no numbers for any roads. The other way is similar to Hamilton or Kawartha Lakes, with numbered routes in a single tier...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Anyone know what is happening on Wilmington south of Finch? There appears to be some sections of raised cycle track being installed, maybe only for bus stops but it's hard to tell.

    VIVA + York Region Transit

Due to the nature of Vaughan's creation as a a city of amalgamated villages, many are still kept as postal designations. For example, in Thornhill, most people will write Thornhill as their city name, regardless or not of whether they are in Markham or Vaughan, because postal companies still...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

I almost burst out laughing when the video panned out so we could see that it is placed on a street that is 5 car widths wide. Put a speed bump, chicane, anything is probably more effective that that. On top of the fact that it looks ridiculous, it seems it could be a serious safety issue if...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

I don't think that's a good idea, that would basically only allow one car to get through per phase. At least now you could squeeze in two or maybe even three if oncoming traffic cooperates.
  15. W

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

I think if our traffic signals are smart enough they should be able to detect if no oncoming traffic is coming and provide a quick left turn phase during the straight through phase.

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

Although a side effect is brutally long wait times for some intersections. Bathurst is now almost exclusively "left turn signal"ed from Steeles to the 407, Highway 7 is on all the VIVA sections, (edit: and Yonge) and crossing the street in these sections can take quite a bit of time.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

IMO the 400 series highways have some of the highest design standards of any freeway system.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

No need to look at Europe, or even the USA, we have plenty of examples of "fast" limits in Canada outside of Ontario: Alberta: (With intersections): BC: Even Quebec (with at grade rail crossings):

Wyecroft Rd Extension & Bridge Project (Halton / Oakville / Burlington)

I'll take it over nothing and some more experienced riders don't mind them, but if we're building from scratch might as well make it safe and comfortable from the get go. If there isn't a lot of turning movement, parked cars, or intersections, I don't think it's so much of an issue as long as...

It's a bit further west along Yonge. Still not much of a "Downtown" but more "historic".
