Doug is perceived to have less baggage than Rob, but IMO Doug can be too aggressive and he lacks Rob's Tommy Boy goofball charm. Rob really only knows a few moves (calling constituents personally, meet and greet and yelling at potholes, shouting gravy train, being a contrarian for no real reason) but he sure worked the hell out of them.

In any other time, I'd say this race looks to be all but over. But, it's not over just yet, and we've seen what can happen the last 4 years, so I think you're right. Anything can still happen.
Well that's because Doug is not a people person. He probably thinks Ford Nation is just as crazy as we all think. Remember he was about to run away to Chicago.

I have it on good authority that most criminal lawyers who know Ari Goldkind consider him a major knob.
Are criminal lawyers' opinions a standard we should worry about? The fact remains that most of the other candidates are possibly "major knobs" in someones opinion as well so what have we learned. I, for one, consider Olivia Chow to be a Knob of the highest order but that is only my opinion. John Tory is a wishy washy Knob but grudgingly acceptable given the quality of the field of candidates offered. Doug brings to mind the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz movie. Who is left?

Well, given that he's a criminal lawyer, I'd think that the opinions of his colleagues and peers - i.e. the people who work with him on a daily basis - would be relevant, but whatever butters your bread man.

He also doesn't seem to know that there are 45 members in City Council

Also, a mayor has one vote out of 44 in City Council.

Any early indications on the election signs? You'd expect 50% or so would be Tory, given the polls. Does that hold up?

From *very* limited, inadequate first-day evidence, Chow's overperforming relative to expectations--or at least her sign crew is. In fact, she's doing first-day better than Pants *and* Smitherman--but Tory's not invisible, either.

But I've seen nothing of Doug Ford, at all--not that I was going through his "better areas" (well, a bit Etobicoke, a corner Frances Nunziata's ward). Then again, who knows how much of his support is sign-shy for fear of vandalism or worse...

Ari Goldkind hammers Doug Ford like a Hulk Hogan leg drop.

From last night's debate: (clever acronym)

Apparently Doug Ford swore at Ari Goldkind at the end of the debate: http://www.torontosun.com/2014/10/02/debate-night-mayoral-candidates-square-off-again

By the way, is there an online link to the debate? I missed it. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I guess Doug Ford's, "I've never needed a defense attorney in my life" comment is another lie that can be added to the 100 lies of Ford thread? Didn't he at least consult one re the Bill Blair lawsuit; which I guess is what Ari Goldkind was hinting at? Is there something else I've missed? There are so many legal problems these twits have been in that I can't keep track.

welcome to ut. :)

Here's another angle (you can catch Chow smirking here). Too bad there isn't an angle that show's Doug's face during these comments.:

Another great answer from Ari. I'm almost hoping he can agitate Doug to the point that he loses self control and tries to punch Ari. Would be a good way to get Doug thrown out of the race.

These are really great clips, HC. Maybe Jon Stewart could use 'em? It's hard to write this real-life stuff.

"How dare he bring up that I'm an immigrant into the debate. I find it was just offensive," she told CBC News on Thursday.

While it had nothing to do with the question really, for someone who brings up that she is an immigrant fairly often I'm surprised she doesn't want others to highlight it.
