Just on one of my searches on ancestry....going thru Canadian voters lists 1935 to '80
I got sidetracked and on a lark I looked up Douglas Ford
There he was in 1957 a salesman at 404 Wilson Ave
Again in the '60's a manger then president at 277 The Westway
And finally the trail ends in '74 still a president at 15 Weston Wood
How about that all readily available information to the public with a minimum of effort....

I'll be interested to see how Cabbagetown votes. I see at least two dozen OC signs, one DF sign and perhaps two JT signs. I suspect JT will win hands down in the riding as it includes Rosedale where Tory supporters are likely strong and Regent Park where many likely can't vote due to citizenship requirements.

Except that "leftist" as a commonly used term tend to be associated with violent groups - the equivalent on the right isn't rightist (with you rarely see used, period) in this context, but "far right" or facist. I am sure you know that just as well as I do.

I think you're confusing a few things. The 't' is silent only in French (and the 'g' is like the second one in garage, and the 'in' is nasal, etc.).

However, there is only one difference between the pronunciation of Agincourt in UK English and in our regional Toronto dialect:

Toronto: age-in-court
UK: adge-in-court

I don't recall hearing the 'T' pronounced in the UK when I was a kid.

Did he say he supported Eglinton Connects before?

I've been flip flopping between supporting Chow and Tory for the past week. Every time Tory opens his mouth I flop back to supporting Chow. I live near Eglinton, so this project is important to me. His non support of it may push me towards Chow.

I find "Progressive" a dumb word. Says nothing about left-leaning principles. And in the Canadian context belonged to a party that was centrist and merged with a right leaning party.

I, see nothing wrong with "leftist". And the association with violence never occurred to me any more than one would think of say "communist" or "socialist" having connotations of violence.

I suppose one could label Chow a "socialist" seeing as she hails from a social democratic party. I wonder if AoD would consider that an acceptable substitute label for Chow and her supporters.

Someone link me the study where John Tory claims that traffic will increase by 10% on Eglinton Connects. I don't believe it.

From the March 2014 Eglinton Connects-Traffic Study Report (Repost from election sign wars thread)

"In assessing 2031 traffic conditions, a scenario with Eglinton Avenue at 4 lanes throughout
the corridor reveals spare capacity between Avenue Road and Mount Pleasant Road, thus
presenting and opportunity to provide additional travel space to non-automobile modes
through this section of Eglinton Avenue. Utilizing the City’s traffic model, the traffic
conditions with only two traffic lanes between Avenue Road and Mount Pleasant Road was
assessed. Traffic impacts of this scenario compared to the 4 lane scenario appear to be
minimal because longer distance traffic diverts away from Eglinton Avenue.
Because of the minimal traffic impact of the 2-lane scenario versus the 4 lane scenario, it is
recommended that the City pursue the 2-lane reduction of Eglinton Avenue between Avenue
Road to Mount Pleasant Road for the benefits to making Eglinton Avenue a more complete
street accommodating all travel modes with continuous cycling lanes, wider sidewalks and
overall improved public spaces.The implementation of these recommendations will be
accompanied by further traffic study, monitoring, and traffic infiltration mitigation measures."

Leftist, rightist....doesn't matter. Ideologically rigid people are a menace.

Either extreme is...how do they say?....same sh*t, different pile. Any sort of extremist is a danger to society, regardless of how meek they may be. This is why populist politicians are a joke. Andrea Horwath and Tim Hudak...they were both rightfully relegated to the political dustbin. Same will happen to the Ford-Chow show.
