It's a bit shambolic for the what, the 9th largest economies of the world.

That donation is 10% of our total tank fleet. Should kinda tell you about the state of the CAF.

If it wasn't for the US and the UK, Ukraine would be toast. It's an important lesson for the world. Countries like Canada and the old Western European powers can't really be counted on to defend democracy. They are all talk.

Or maybe show that we maybe do not need tanks!

I'm in the camp that argues against Canada fielding heavy armour. But our current doctrine says we require heavy armour and yet we don't even field enough to fulfill our own doctrine. It's a bit like laying out the procedures for a surgery and then giving your surgeons half the tools you say they need for the job.

Indeed. We only needed tanks for the Canada’s role in the occupation of Afghanistan. We’re not likely to deploy them anytime this decade, after which our first gen Leo2s will be obsolete. What Canada needs to focus on is the RCN and RCAF, in particular Pacific and Arctic ops, including subsurface patrol and warfare. We need to punch at a weight that gets us into AUKUS.

Any Canadian army focus should be on the Arctic.

Ukrainian forces need to leave Bakhmut. There insistance to fight at all costs is going to result in either high casualties or a significant number of POWs. Either would be a significant strategic mistake, though I'd argue it already is one given there are no safe routes out of the city.
