The building is an interesting one stylistically and it could be a purpose-built car showroom. It was built after 1913, and already selling cars by 1929. The photo @AlbertC posted back in the thread shows it as the O'Donnell Mackie dealership.

The city's Yonge Street HCD study dates it to 1899, which is incorrect. This piece dates it to 1919 as a Dodge dealership.

Looking at the leasing on this one...................there is a roof top patio option.

Which they are making conditional on being contiguous to a 3rd floor lessee.

I recall hearing that it was originally built as a bowling alley before it became the RaInbow Tavern
 
The neighbouring building to the north, 579 Yonge Street (formerly Nick's Sport Shop), is now being listed for sale at $27 million:
