This is a joint City of Toronto/TDSB site on the south side of Progress Avenue just a bit east of McCowan, on the south-west bank of the Markham Branch of Highland Creek.
This 10.9 acre site was originally intended as a new TDSB elementary school to serve Scarborough City Centre and a new City Park.
While both uses are still contemplated, it appears the City is also considering other options for the site including some form of housing, as well as a new road.
Currently the site is home to a small commercial/industrial building that existed on the site prior to public ownership, a portion of which the City has converted to an emergency homeless shelter in order to accommodate some of the people
displaced by the George Street revitalization.
A look at the site: (Aerial)
Note that the current SRT maintenance yard, tail track and ROW for a future SRT eastward extension abut the south end of this site.
Below is the Streetview of the Progress frontage, with Highland Creek off to the left of the image:
This site is something I've been aware of for a very long time, posting about it here (in 2017):
The shelter on the site opened just last May, and the news release can be found here:

What brought this site back to my attention is a tender out on Merx:

The most recent TDSB report on the site is from May of 2021 and can be found here:
From that report is a timeline the TDSB was looking to follow, which I suspect (but don't know) has seen some slippage.

Parks - new & revitalized
There was a period where Forumers, for good reason, criticized Toronto & its administers for neglecting parks. Maybe at that time the focus was keeping pace with construction. But in the last few months, I've been overwhelmed at the fine new or revitalized parks completed or announced. Any...
