I think in a way a lot of people are hypocrites when it comes to Dubai. Everyone dismisses the architecture as junk, but I'm sure if a few of those projects were going up here a lot of forum members would be ecstatic.

yep. methinks some of this criticism is stemming from jealousy.

personally i find the burj to be an absolutely stunning building.

Dubai simply raised the standard for architecture to the point where a landmark in the city has become a fantasy building by most North American and European standards. I'm indifferent to this slowdown in Dubai. However, it is kind of annoying to see so many interesting towers go up don't seem to be as appreciated and discussed as they would be in a city where they would stand out.
