What is the saying about people believing a big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it?

Recent history has shown this strangely seems to sometimes work, so maybe that is the strategy here.

There's a clip of this fool on "Fox News" - what a surprise along - Smitty's fav media outlet as well!

Anyway - this fool goes on saying that his 5000 acres will be/require - "7 Gigs of Power, enough power for 7 Million homes." All the while, the world requires "30 G of available power towards these Data centers asap." So he's hoping to get almost a quarter of all data centers.
This sounds like a huge financial undertaking. So, does O'Leary actually have the financial capacity to do something like this himself, are there other investors or backers he has lined up or is he just hopeful there will be?

He needs to raise capital/sell equity/borrow here for sure, but this sort of money seems out of Mr. Wonderful's league. His net worth is supposed to be like 400 million or something? Obviously that figure likely doesn't capture the full picture given the various firms he has, but 70 billion is astronomical....

Watch Heritage Trust fund and AMCO get used. He is promoting North Dakoda for Data centres but it doesn't look like he even has a stake in the ones that are there.
As for Geo, there is a deep well power project in the county but pretty low power output right now. So they would have to build a new power NG generation unit.

As to the article @Gus Haynes it seems you are trading one codfish for another. As per the writer's own biases he is on a mission for "the eradication of ideological thinking". Knowing that, puts him in the same biases bent as FOX "news". Not worth the read in my books I would like to contribute to a fund to send him back to Vancouver. Self-aggrandisement should be stamped on his forehead.

Oh good luck with eradicating ideological thinking! It seems to be thriving more than ever these days.

I can understand those some who have come here recently who were forced to leave places that are unaffordable, pining for them from time to time. But they need to embrace where they are and not spend too much time longing for place that may seem lovely, but as he says requires financial hardship or indentured servitude for those who are not wealthy, to get by. Although, I guess that sort of is Stockholm syndrome, isn't it?

Yes, I kind of expected that answer.

If someone proposes a project that requires an astronomical money, perhaps it should not be taken too seriously until they give some indication of how they plan to fund it, if they do not have the personal resources to do it on their own.

I believe the common saying is put up or shut up.

The article, @MacLac, is very positive with some rather obvious cautionary concerns. Publicity stunt for O'Leary or not the hubbub is certainly shining a spotlight on Alberta and northern Alberta in particular. The advantages that Alberta holds for the development of a mega-data centre are now listed in a positive framework. In alignment with your thoughts I too am not a fan of O'Leary nor of Danni-girl (neither seems to have much of a social conscience) but that aside I think the Wonder Valley idea is loaded with merit. Alberta, and Edmonton in particular, have histories of taking on spectacular ideas that are outsized for the representative population -- WEM, Stantec, the Oil and Gas industry with all of its mega-billion-dollar tentacles, Oxford Developments, ICE district... the list is long and growing. I wouldn't let your (and my) distaste for the personalities involved get in the way of positive outcomes for Alberta.

I'll give you all of that and then some......😊
