J J McLAUGHLIN was a brother with Sam McLaughlin of General Motors fame.
(There was also at the least another brother.)

Love those renderings, wwwebster. Do you think they were for what became the "Old" City Hall?

Here's a rendering for a proposed Victoria Square, site of what became Simpson's and today The Bay:

I much miss the Union Carbide building at Eglinton and Redpath. I had meetings there in the late 80s. The lobby was beautiful. I always wonder why it wasn't converted into condos instead of new construction.

Great thread thecharioteer and wwwebster.

There was another "east of Yonge" collapse on St Clair Avenue during the mid 1960s.

Very nice! The Forest Hill Library always seemed to me to be influenced by Mies' Farnsworth House, with the open side porch entrance and horizontal composition.

So interesting that of all the buildings demolished in the 50's and 60's, this one survived by being moved southerly behind the new Board building (and is still there). One wonders how much of the ornate interior still remains.
