Necro-bump:

Apparently, Facebook is in hot water over the data breach with the politically conservative data analysis firm Cambridge Analytics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook–Cambridge_Analytica_data_scandal

Over 87 million accounts are affected in the breach. It also caused Facebook to lose $31 billion in value overnight.
They’re in hot water again. The Aussies seem to have sorted out how to best curtail FB

I've been using (FB) Messenger Lite -> a stripped down Messenger smartphone app. I'd be really happy if there was a Group Lite app that's just for the FB Groups but in a stripped down fashion. I can actually cut myself off from FB Groups, but a few international friends mainly use Messenger, and that's the biggest reason why I still have a FB account at all.

I need to get myself away from Gmail as well honestly. I just recently found out that they record your purchases from the email order receipts. *sigh* They claim they don't use the data for tracking, but the "do no evil" Google left the building at least a decade ago.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the computer/phone/internet tech support workers around the world. Lord knows how many millions of people are calling them saying "fix my phone and internet! Facebook and Instagram aren't working!!!

Techpocalypse! This is why i still keep lots of cash in my safe. I wouldn't be surprised if we wake up one day and log on to our bank accounts and see our money stolen by hackers. I don't use any digital banking apps. i pay cash for most things, I try to limit the possibility of my debit card number being available for steal where ever possible. My mom had her unused TD account hacked last year. She didn't even use her debit card with TD because of lockdowns. Her main bank is RBC. This was all on TD's end. They got crappy online security.

Cash will always be king.

I am delirious at the thought of seeing a hypothetical destroyer of Facebook accepting the Nobel Peace Prize.
...and Time Magazine Person of the Year.

After all, the Zucks himself won it in the past. It's time a Facebook destroyer becomes Time Magazine Person of the Year as well.
