What happened to the Stock Yards in the 1990s was among the most pathetic failures in heritage preservation since the 1970s. So many great industrial buildings were lost for nothing. A century of industrial history was wiped out for parking lots and ugly big-box stores that turn their backs to the main streets.
To those unfamiliar with the kinds of buildings that were lost, they were warehouses, midrise office buildings from the early 20th century, a decent Brutalist office building, and a roundhouse and locomotive shops. This page shows the roundhouse and railway shops that were demolished.
