Some info from the City's June project update email.

The City of Ottawa is undertaking the renewal of Bank Street from Riverside Drive to Ledbury Avenue. This work will include the replacement of underground sewers and watermains, and a full road reconstruction. The vision for the Bank Street renewal is to construct a functioning and safe arterial main street with a well-balanced multi-modal transportation network which will cater to vehicles, transit, cyclists and pedestrians.

Access to local businesses will remain open at all times. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue to support Bank Street and area businesses during construction.

Project update

It has begun! The City of Ottawa is starting construction of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal (Riverside Drive to Collins Avenue). The city has secured R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to construction the project and residents will see construction activity getting underway with lane closures.
Starting on June 10, Bank Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive (westbound) and the Bélanger Avenue / Lamira Street intersection.

Throughout construction, residents can expect to see construction traffic and activity within the City’s right of way throughout the project limits. Access to local businesses will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian and cyclist access will also be maintained through the work zone during construction.

The work being completed in Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction includes the installation, rehabilitation and/or replacement of various components of the underground infrastructure including watermains, sanitary and storm sewers. It includes full reconstruction of the road and sidewalks and will add a cycle track, new street lighting, traffic signals and streetscape improvements. In this first year of construction, work will focus on the segment between Riverside Drive (westbound) and the Bélanger Avenue / Lamira Street intersection.

This is a multi-year project which will be constructed in phases. The full completion of Phase 1 (from Riverside Drive (westbound) to Collins Avenue) is expected in 2027.

Will the street eventually be renewed all the way into downtown?

Any updates on the Sparks street revitalization?
Downtown portion was done around 2008. Sidewalks were widened a bit, hydro wires buried. Glebe was done sometime between 2009 and 2012, but other than replacing concrete sidewalks with interlock, I'm not seeing any improvements. City is looking into options to reconfigure the Glebe portion.
