It’s time for another instalment of my 10-part series, Better Know A Car Line. Today we look at the king of all car lines, the 504 King – the fightin’ 504th!
The 504 has something for everyone – whether you are an old-stock Anglo-Scottish Protestant Capitalist Banker, or a granola-crunching Polish Catholic hippie (looking at you, Meathead!), as it passes through both the Financial District and Roncesvalles Avenue, where Pope John Paul II and fair trade coffee are big.
(Can we get a pic of Rob Reiner up here? No? Ah well.)
And the 504 is for both work and play. From the entertainment district to adult entertainment, it has it all. And from kielbasa and granola Roncesvalles to Chinatown East, there’s a few ethnic neighbourhoods, so with all of this, it possibly matches the 506 for variety of activities and sights.
We start at Broadview Station, work our way to Dundas West Station, then back again, both stations shared with the 505 Dundas, which will be profiled in a future instalment.
With the Gardiner closed this weekend, it made things more interesting, especially with the Khalsa Day parade downtown and other events going on. All in all, a great way to take advantage of a beautiful last day of April.
And watch for updated views of Hudson, Spire and other projects.
Let's start the tour!
Some of the old Corktown houses have been made visible. This is similar to some of the housing removed for the construction of Regent Park and Moss Park in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
The words "Canadian Pacific Building" are visibly removed from 1 King East.
Ugly, ugly, ugly. This building’s officially on notice for its crimes against aesthetics. .
Did anyone bother to tell the puppet of the recording industry that she lost to the Dippers?
The 504 meets the 505.
Now we go eastbound, with pics of the north side of the street.
Here’s where the granola-crunchers hang out.
Hudson’s looking fine.
Police-enforced transit only road. With a bicycle. I like it. (Though I bet it’s a one time thing for Khalsa Day parade to City Hall.)
Spire’s looking fine as well.
This part of the route has some of the best skyline views anywhere.
Let’s put the 504 up on the big board!
This was the first route covered in its entirety, with the 506 under construction on Upper Gerrard and 501 not fully covered either.
Stay tuned for more instalments of Better Know A Car Line!
