Spotted my first deer in Blatchford last weekend. While coyotes and rabbits are par for the course, this was unexpected. I saw it on the west end of the development Saturday morning, and then near the northeast LRT tracks again on Sunday afternoon.

With two more applications for development permits for apartment buildings now in the hopper, I count over 600 apartment units between all of the approved or in review development permits. Obviously, development permit applications do not mean something gets built, but it is definitely a great sign, along with the next phase of almost 200 townhomes starting already this year.

From the capital projects update:

Development:
Blatchford East Stage 6 underground and surface construction has been substantially completed in 2025. Power and landscaping installation will be ongoing. Blatchford stage 7, 8 and 9 are planned to be serviced in 2026. Builder construction of the townhomes, both fee simple and multi-family parcels, continues to progress. Blatchford's first multi-storey apartment style buiding has commenced construction.

Renewable energy utility growth:
This composite program holds the budget for the planning, design and construction of the Sewer Heat Exchange Energy Centre in the Blatchford Market area. These are planned for the 2027-2030 budget cycle although some of the early work may start in 2026 as this project is 30% funded by grant money that ends in March 2029 and we want to maximize using those funds

I hope they are doing 6A from this map you posted a few months ago as well. I think it is important to get that area going as well.

There are a couple of Streetside units facing the Mews, but where they really dropped the ball was not installing a gate in the fence along the Mews. People using those doors need to go all the way around to the alley. Hopefully this is something the condo board will address when it is formed (which'll happen when the last townhouse is finished).
I talked with the interim property manager (in place until a condo board is formed), and it turns out that there was some sort of error that led to the fence installer placing a fence along Fane Mew. Sometime this year, they're planning to have the fence alongside Fane Mew completely removed so that the south end is open like the north end, and extend the sidewalk to connect with Fane.

If that promenade doesn't include at least a few spaces for coffee shops, bike rentals, etc. it'll be a wasted opportunity.
From this plan, I think the Metis Housing Corporation intends to have retail units facing Fane Mew, as well as the Pilot rental townhomes.

Those big awnings on the CRUs do a lot to minimize the apartment above. Looks great!
The rendering on Blatchford's website looks stunning. I think it is facing southwest, at the corner of Fane Mew and Fane Road.

There's also a lot of work underway on shallow utilities and homes in the next phase.

The new Encore homes are coming along too — the pictures of the front were taken on March 7, but the one from the rear was taken today like the rest in this post.
